A Stirling Journey of Discovery!

Situated in the heart of Scotland, the King Robert Hotel offers an ideal base for exploring the historic city of Stirling and its magnificent castle. Our exciting new packaged itinerary also includes the Falkirk Wheel, Scotland’s remarkable capital city, Edinburgh, a boat cruise and a steam train journey along the Firth of Forth - a Stirling itinerary!
Day 1 Arrival
We will arrive in Stirling with time to settle in prior to dinner this evening.

Day 2 Stirling Castle & Falkirk Wheel 32 mile round trip
We spend this morning in the ancient capital of Scotland which lies at the heart of the nation’s history. The streets of the old town all wind upwards towards the magnificentStirling Castle, 250 feet up on its craggy rock, dominating the surrounding landscape. We visit the castle, one of Scotland’s most historically important sites and favoured residence of the Stewart kings and queens who held grand celebrations here. We then have free time to explore this beautiful historic city before heading towards Falkirk for a trip on the Falkirk Wheel. The Falkirk Wheel is the world’s only rotating boatlift, which is used to connect the Forth & Clyde and Union canals in central Scotland. An exceptional feat of modern engineering, the 50 minute journey lifts the boat up to join the Union Canal 35 metres above and allows the boat to sail smoothly from The Falkirk Wheel onto the Union Canal.

Day 3 Edinburgh 71 mile round trip
This morning, we will visit the stunning capital city of Scotland where we have the freedom to visit any number of fantastic attractions: Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Yacht Britannia, the Royal Botanic Garden or shopping in Edinburgh’s Old Town. Why not visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse? Best known as the home of Mary, Queen of Scots, the Palace was the setting for many dramatic episodes in her short reign. Today, the state apartments are used regularly by The Queen for state ceremonies and official entertaining. We can explore 14 magnificent historic and state apartments, the romantic ruins of the 12th century Holyrood Abbey and remarkable royal gardens. The choice is yours!

Day 4 Firth of Forth Boat Cruise & Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway & Museum 53 mile round trip
This morning, we travel to the historic Hawes Pier and board the Maid of the Forth for a 90 minute sightseeing tour downriver towards Inchcolm Island. During the cruise, we will hear commentary pointing out the landmarks as we pass them, including the spectacular Forth Rail Bridge, Inchgarvie Island with its remains of a 12th century castle, Hound Point Oil Terminal and Haystack Rock, where we can watch the seals basking in the sunshine or playing in the water! We dock briefly at Inchcolm Island, before continuing round to the south of the island where we will be treated to spectacular views of Inchcolm Abbey. On our way back we will be on the lookout for any birdlife that can be seen such as puffins, guillemots, razorbills and the occasional dolphin or porpoise. We will then spend the afternoon enjoying a scenic 10 mile return nostalgic journey on theBo'ness & Kinneil Steam railway along the Forth Estuary, through woodlands, past waterfalls and over the Avon Viaduct. Afterwards, we have time to discover the Museum of Scottish Railways - Scotland’s largest railway museum which is filled with locomotives, carriages, wagons and other railway artefacts.

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast we depart our hotel and begin our journey home.
