Bulbfields & Battlefields

Our packaged itinerary has something to please both garden lovers and historians. We have included a visit to Keukenhof and a guided tour to learn about the events that took place in Arnhem during WWII followed by a visit to the Airborne Museum. The tour is based at the group friendly 4-star Best Western Plus Hotel Haarhuis, located in the heart of this welcoming historic city.

Tina says...
“Arnhem is one of the friendliest and best cities to explore in Holland. This central hotel extends the warm welcome and great hospitality that highlights the unique link the British have with this historic destination.”
Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel this afternoon with time to settle in prior to dinner this evening

Day 2 Keukenhof 253km/157 mile round trip
After breakfast this morning, we make our way to ‘The most beautiful spring garden in the world’, Keukenhof. More than 7 million tulips, daffodils and hyacinths create a spectacular display in the so-called ‘Garden of Europe’, covering an area of over 32 hectares. The park is awash with the sight and scent of blossoming flowers and you can even take a Whisper Boat trip past the bulbfields… a fabulous day out!

Day 3 ‘A Bridge Too Far’ & Airborne Museum ‘Hartenstein’ 17km/11 mile round trip
This morning our guide joins our coach for a half day tour and we learn of events that took place in Arnhem during WWII including Operation Market Garden, when British and Polish troops were parachuted behind enemy lines. We will have the opportunity to view the John Frost Bridge, named after the British commanding officer, and made famous in the 1977 film ‘A Bridge Too Far’. After our tour, we then visit the Airborne Museum ‘Hartenstein’, a superb and very moving museum dedicated to the 1944 Battle of Arnhem story, housed within the impressive 19th century Villa Hartenstein (former headquarters of the British command during the battle). Before returning we visit the Oosterbeek War Cemetery where nearly 2,000 Allied servicemen are buried. We spend the afternoon at leisure exploring the lovely city of Arnhem.

Day 4 Departure
After breakfast this morning, we begin our journey home.
