Hidden Portugal by Air

Portugal is so much more than the resorts and golf courses of the Algarve. In the north of the country, away from the package holidays, you’ll find a destination of rugged coastline and dramatic mountain scenery, of vineyards and fine food and historic cities and hilltop villages. Hidden Portugal, as it has come to be known, remains to this day largely untouched by mass tourism and is a country whose people offer a warm welcome and who will delight you with their rich and colourful culture. You will wonder at the profound historic wealth that Portugal has to offer.
Day 1
Today we depart for our flight to Porto. Once on Portuguese soil we will be met by our guide at the airport who will direct us to our coach and accompany us to the Hotel Sauve Mar in Esposende. We enjoy dinner at the hotel this evening.

Day 2
After breakfast we will be met by our guide for a full day excursion of Porto, where you will find a mysterious city that reveals its charm. We will take our time and wander through the mazes and alleys of the city. There is plenty to see from the Ribeira, World Heritage areas, Sao Francisco church, to traditional markets and of course a tour and tasting at one of Porto’s many renowned Port wine producers.

Day 3
This morning we will make our way to the historic town of Guimaraes. Here we will enjoy aguided tour of the first capital of Portugal, which was nominated for European Capital of Culture in 2012 and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will enjoy the morning walking through the cobbled streets and visiting Ducal Palace. In the afternoon we will make our way to Braga for a visit to the Bom Jesus Sanctuary, one of the most remarkable examples of 18th Century religious architecture, which is simply breathtakingly beautiful and decorated with fountains and stone carvings.

Day 4
Today, we will enjoy a full day at leisure, enjoying the facilities at the hotel.

Day 5
After breakfast, we make our way to see the charming town of Amarante, which is surrounded by prized vineyards. We have time to admire the historical buildings and numerous restaurants at our leisure. We will then finish the day by travelling to Penafiel for a visit to Quinta de Aveleda, where we will enjoy this amazing vineyard estate, with some wine tasting included.

Day 6
Today, we will enjoy a half day guided excursion to Barcelos. Barcelos is a small town known for its pottery and the most widely recognised symbol of Portugal – the Barcelos cockerel. We will enjoy the largest weekly market in Portugal, where we have free time to purchase some of the local produce.

Day 7
Today, we will enjoy our last day, where we can relax, unwind, and reminisce on our week's adventure. Tonight we will enjoy our last dinner at the hotel.

Day 8
After breakfast this morning, we check out of the hotel and transfer back to the airport for our flight back home.
