Kynren – An Epic Tale of England

Come to County Durham this summer to experience ‘Kynren - an epic tale of England’, Bishop Auckland’s live action extravaganza, the mesmerising show that takes you on a whistle stop tour of 2,000 years of history, myth and legend.

Taking place on a vast landscaped stage, with a huge lake at its centre hiding a host of surprises, you’ll meet many of the characters and events that have shaped the north east - and the country as a whole - as the 29 scenes, encompassing the Roman occupation to World War II, unfold in front of your eyes.

With a cast and crew of almost 1,500 performing on a vast open-air stage alongside horses, sheep, oxen, donkeys, goats and geese, the scale of the show must be seen to be believed. Spectacular sets appearing as if by magic, mass choreography and fierce battles are illuminated with dazzling special effects, effervescent lighting and pyrotechnics, set to a spine-tingling original score which you’ll experience in movie-like surround sound.

Whether you are visiting for the first time or are a returning viewer, expect to be blown away by the sheer spectacle of Kynren 2018.

We have included “Bronze” entry to Kynren within our prices – this is the lowest price, for seating at the edge of the Tribune.

Tickets for the whole tour group can be upgraded to “Silver”, “Gold”, “Platinum” or “Diamond” on request. Ticket prices applicable to groups of minimum 25 pax only.

Tickets are subject to availability – book early to avoid disappointment!
Durham: Our Picks

Durham has plenty to offer, and is filled with beautiful countryside and historic buildings. Here are some suggested itinerary items for the remainder of your stay.

Open Treasure at Durham Cathedral

Open Treasure is a new world-class exhibition route which transforms public access to some of Durham Cathedral’s most spectacular spaces, including the fourteenth-century Monks’ Dormitory and the monastic Great Kitchen. Journey through some of the most remarkable medieval monastic buildings in the British Isles as the story of Durham Cathedral and its incredible collections is revealed.

Beamish - The Living Museum of the North

Experience a real sense of your past at Beamish, and discover what life was like in North East England in the 1820s, 1910s and 1940s. Beamish is a living, working museum, set in 300 acres of beautiful Durham countryside. Costumed folk bring to life the Town, Pit Village, Home Farm and Pockerley Old Hall. Experience first-hand how the Industrial Revolution transformed agricultural life in the region. The buildings you see at Beamish are not replicas, but have been brought, brick by brick, from around the region and rebuilt to give visitors a real sense of history.

Tanfield Railway

Tanfield Railway is a 3 mile steam railway, and the oldest railway in the world, based on a section of the 1725 Tanfield Waggonway Trains with a variety of vintage carriages. Travel into the scenic Causey Woods where the 1727 Causey Arch bridge is the centre piece in a deep valley with many walks and display boards giving the 18th Century railway history of the area. Back at Marley Hill shed, the oldest working engine shed in Britain, built in 1854, a large collection of locally built and used locomotives can be seen.
