Magnificent Mull

There’s no need to ‘mull over’ the decision on whether you should visit the Isle of Mull, the second largest island of the Hebrides. We visit the Island’s capital picture -postcard Tobermory with its brightly harbour-front buildings, and Duart Castle which sits proudly on a cliff top guarding the Sound of Mull. We then travel to the far west of the island and take a ferry from Fionnphort to the spiritual Isle of Iona, a place of natural beauty and serenity.
Day 1 Arrival
Today we will arrive in Oban and have time to perhaps explore the Oban War and Peace Museum before taking the afternoon ferry to the Isle of Mull and settle into our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Isle of Mull & ‘Balamory’ 49 mile round trip
Today, we will travel the short distance to Duart Castle, which sits proudly on a cliff top guarding the Sound of Mull and therefore provides spectacular far-reaching views. We will then make our way to the island’s capital and picture-postcard port of Tobermory, immortalised by the BBC children’s programme ‘Balamory’ which was filmed here. Tobermory’s stunning multi-coloured houses and spectacular harbour, always busy with fishing boats, is a romantic and naturally beautiful location to explore at leisure. We might take a tour of Tobermory Distillery or visit the Marine Visitor Centre.

Day 3 The Isle of Iona 72 mile round trip
This morning, we will travel to the far west of the Isle of Mull and take a ferry from Fionnphort for the short trip to the spiritual Isle of Iona, a place of natural beauty and serenity with white sandy beaches and memorable views. Here, we will visit Iona Abbey, founded in AD563, and the cloisters, as well as St Columba’s Shrine, the Nunnery and Maclean’s Cross during our 2 hour trip to Iona, perhaps having a light lunch at the pier side Martyr’s Bay Restaurant & Café before returning to the Isle of Mull.

Day 4 Departure
After breakfast we begin our journey home.
