One of the most beautiful train journeys in the world

Explore the diverse Northern Ireland coastline on our new packaged tour. Based in Coleraine, the tour takes in breathtaking scenery and includes a stunning train journey, the fascinating city of Londonderry, the Giants Causeway, Bushmills Distillery and Glenarm Castle & Walled Gardens.
Day 1 Arrival
This afternoon we arrive at the Lodge Hotel with time to settle in prior to dinner.

Day 2 'The Most Beautiful Train Journey' & Derry 65 mile round trip
Today we board a train and travel from Coleraine to Derry for a journey that is described by Michael Palin as being ‘one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world’. The track runs alongside the sands so we will have spectacular views of one of the most unspoilt beaches in Ireland. On the opposite side, we pass the maritime cliffs of Downhill and the impressive Binevenagh Mountain. When we arrive in Derry, we will meet our informative guide for a 2 hour walking tour. We can then have lunch at leisure and enjoy free time to visit the Tower Museum nestled within the city’s historic walls or the Guildhall. We then board our coach and return to our hotel for dinner.

Day 3 Bushmills Distillery & Giants Causeway 24 mile round trip
Today, we experience stunning scenery during our spectacular drive along the Antrim Coast. Following our scenic journey, we arrive at the village of Bushmills where we visit the Old Bushmills Distillery, the oldest whiskey producer in Ireland. Here we enjoy an informativeguided tour showing the processes used to manufacture the whiskey (but please note that there are numerous steps and stairs and the tour may not be suitable for people with restricted mobility). We then have free time for lunch at Bushmills. In the afternoon, we visit the extraordinary Giant’s Causeway, the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland. Flanked by the wild North Atlantic Ocean on one side and a landscape of dramatic cliffs on the other, for centuries the Giant’s Causeway has inspired artists, stirred scientific debate and captured the imagination of all who see it. The mystery and stories of the landscape are now explained in the award winning Visitor Centre and there is now a shuttle bus available for the less mobile to gain easy access to the stones.

Day 4 Glenarm Castle & Walled Gardens & The Antrim Coast Road 96 mile round trip
This morning we make our way to one of Northern Ireland’s oldest and most beautiful estates, Glenarm Castle, the ancestral home of the McDonnells, Earls of Antrim. The housekeeper and butler will take us on a private guided tour of the private home of Lord and Lady Dunluce giving us an insight into the fascinating the history and life in the castle. We then have time to explore the Walled Garden, in its incomparable setting by the sea, and enjoy refreshments in the charming tea room and perhaps buy a souvenir in the castle shop. Our return journey all about the scenery, as we travel along the spectacular Antrim Coast through charming seaside villages.

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast we leave our hotel and begin our journey home.
