Royals, Rails and Dolphins!

Our fantastic packaged itinerary includes a visit to the Balmoral Estate, along with a journey on the Royal Deeside railway, as well as a guided tour of the “Granite City” of Aberdeen. We finish the trip with a harbour cruise to see the dolphins!
Day 1 Arrival in Aberdeen
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Balmoral Estate & Royal Deeside Railway 98 mile round trip
Today we trace the footsteps of the Royal family. We begin our day with a short stop at the Church of Crathie best known for being the regular place of worship for the British Royal Family when they are holidaying in Scotland. We then visit Balmoral Estate which is nestled in the shadows of Lochnagar. We will have free time for lunch at the coffee shop on the Estate. In the afternoon we will make our way to the Royal Deeside Railway at Milton of Crathes train station where we will board a diesel or steam train for a 2 mile return journey. The Royal Deeside Railway is unique in having served all British monarchs from Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth II, their families and foreign visitors travelling to Balmoral. After our journey, we will return to our hotel for dinner.

Day 3 Aberdeen
After breakfast, we will begin our half day guided tour of Aberdeen, the Granite City and Scotland’s third largest city. We will explore the impressive turreted Town House in Union Street, the castellated Citadel at The Castlegate and the striking gothic Marischal College, the world’s second largest granite structure. With time to visit Aberdeen’s three key attractions: Provost Skene’s House, Aberdeen Art Gallery and the Aberdeen Maritime Museum (all free entry) or finishing the day exploring the famous “Granite Mile” which is full of high street and independent Scottish craft shops, we will have plenty to see and do. In the afternoon, we will enjoy a Dolphin Adventure Cruise. Our adventure begins at the Dolphin Education Centre for an audio visual presentation about Aberdeen’s dolphins followed by a 1 hour fascinating harbour cruise to see Aberdeen’s “urban dolphins” in their natural habitat. We will have the chance to see bottlenose dolphins, white beaked dolphins, risso dolphins, minke whales and basking sharks. Cruising along Aberdeen’s port, one of the busiest and most impressive ports, allows you to view Aberdeen’s skyline from a different perspective and to witness and experience close up views of a busy working harbour.

Day 4 Departure
After breakfast we depart our hotel and begin our journey home.
