Serene Söll & Majestic Mayrhofen

The Tyrol region’s stunning scenery, waterfalls and majestic snow-capped peaks are legendary. The area offers a wide variety of attractions to discover and our suggested itinerary features a journey on the oldest steam cog railway in Europe, a relaxing lake cruise and a horse drawn carriage ride in the Tyrolean capital Innsbruck.

Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel and settle in prior to dinner this evening.

Day 2 Lake Achen Railway & Boat Cruise 102km/63 mile round trip (Söll) 107km/66 mile round trip (Mayrhofen)
Today we travel to Jenbach, from where we join the original Lake Achen cog railway for the journey up to Seespitz. This railway dates back to 1889 and the steam engines are some of the oldest in the world. The train winds its way up above the Inn Valley to its destination, the largest Alpine lake in the Tyrol, Lake Achen. After a short opportunity for a photo stop, we may choose to join a short boat cruise along the beautiful shores from Seespitz to Pertisau. Once back on dry land, we can enjoy free time in the lakeside resort of Pertisau where there are several cafés in which to have lunch. On our return journey, we stop at the delightful town of Rattenberg, famous for its glass and crystal workshops.

Day 3 Innsbruck with Horse & Carriage Ride 144km/90 mile round trip (Söll) 134km/84 mile round trip (Mayrhofen)
We will today visit the Tyrolean capital city of Innsbruck, surrounded by the jagged rock spires of the Nordkette range. When we arrive we enjoy a 1 hour horse and carriage ride through the streets of the old town and discover some of the most important sightseeing attractions, including the Hofgarten gardens, the ornate 15th century “Golden Roof” designed as a royal box for the Emperor, the column of Saint Anne and the Triumphal Arch. Following our carriage ride we then have time at leisure to explore the medieval old town, Tyrolean Folk Art Museum, grand Imperial Palace and baroque cathedral.

Today will be a relaxing day. In the morning we enjoy a guided village walk before having free time to explore the village of Söll. In the afternoon we return for coffee and cake back at the hotel with our hosts.

The falls are Europe’s highest with a drop of 380 metres and the fifth largest waterfalls in the world. Our journey then continues to the pretty town of Zell am See, nestled on the shores of lovely Lake Zell.
