To Summit up… Once in a Lifetime Alpine Views

Our lovely family-run hotel in Zell am See is the perfect base for enjoying the spectacular snow-capped summits of this beautiful region, which provide even more stunning views in the warm summer months!

Jack says...
“This hotel has a great location in the centre of Zell’s historic Old Town and the lakefront is just a short walk away.”
Day 1 Arrival
This afternoon, we will arrive to a warm welcome from the staff at our friendly hotel.

Day 2 Zell am See Driver’s Day Off
Today we enjoy a relaxing day within our resort and the local area. We can browse the small shops in the pedestrianised area around the hotel or take a picturesque circular cruise on the clear waters of Lake Zell. For lovers of all things alpine, there is a cable car within 3 minutes’ walk of the hotel allowing access to the mountains above the resort, as well as other cable cars slightly further away.

Day 3 Kaprun & Kitzsteinhorn Glacier 15km/9 mile round trip
This morning , we begin with a real highlight of our holiday by travelling the short distance to the village of Kaprun to board our cable car to travel to the summit of the Kitzsteinhorn (3209m above sea level), one of the highest accessible points in Austria. At the summit, we will enjoy once in a lifetime views from the panoramic platform and the Nationalpark Gallery, providing us with a fascinating insight into the origins and nature of the region. Do experience the centre’s cinema where nature is captured in amazing panoramic pictures and remember that snow is a year-round feature at the summit!

Day 4 Grossglockner Alpine Pass & Lienz 184km/114 mile round trip
We board our coach this morning for our journey on a scenic drive over one of the highest alpine passes in Europe, the Grossglockner Alpine Pass. This alpine road opened in 1935, permitting exploration of an area previously closed to all except mountaineers. Now much improved from that era, there are multiple stopping points, mountain inns and visitor centres to add to the enjoyment. We descend the other side into the East Tyrol region of Austria and to its capital, Lienz. We enjoy free time here in the “Pearl of the Dolomites” before returning to our hotel via the Felbertauern tunnel.

Note: Tolls apply for the Grossglockner Alpine Pass.

Day 5 Berchtesgaden & Eagle’s Nest 164km/102 mile round trip
Our journey today takes us northwards across the border into nearby Germany and the mountain resort of Berchtesgaden. Originally, the town found its wealth in rich salt deposits nearby, but later became famous for being the location of Hitler’s “Eagle’s Nest”, perched 6,000 ft on top of the mountain. Since 1952, the building has been open to the public as a mountain top restaurant with a spectacular view. We return to our hotel late afternoon before our final dinner.

Note: Due to its unusually high elevation, the building is accessed only by special mountain buses from Obersalzberg and is open from mid-May - October, dependent on weather conditions.

Day 6 Departure
Today, we will leave our lovely resort in the Austrian Alps and begin our journey home.
