A Bonnie Regal Trail

The Royal family have such strong connections to Scotland and this tour traces their footsteps with visits to the Palace of Holyrood, the Royal Yacht Britannia, Royal St Andrews and Glamis Castle. Our new hotel, the Green Hotel, provides us with the perfect base from which to tour south Perthshire.

Janine says: “The Green is a great hotel in South Perthshire and they really know how to deliver great hospitality for groups.”

We arrive at our Perthshire hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Holyroodhouse & Royal Yacht Britannia 58 mile round trip
This morning, we will make our way to Edinburgh for our visit to the Queen’s official Scottish residence The Palace of Holyroodhouse. Situated at the end of the Royal Mile, the Palace is closely associated with Scotland’s turbulent past, including that of Mary, Queen of Scots. Today, the Palace is the setting for State ceremonies and official entertaining. Following our visit to the Palace we have free time in Edinburgh for lunch, when we can explore the many shops on Princes Street and discover the countless royal connections this fascinating city has. In the afternoon we will visit the Royal Yacht Britannia, which was once the Queens floating royal residence for over 40 years. During our visit we will have the opportunity to explore the yacht which has accommodated not only the Royal family but many influential world leaders.

Day 3 St Andrews & Guided Walk of the Old Course 60 mile round trip
This morning, we will travel to the world famous Old Course at St. Andrew’s Links where we will join an expert guide on a 1 hour tour around the 1st, 17th & 18th holes. We will walk in the footsteps of icons of the game and experience a player’s eye view of the fabled links. Golf has been played at St. Andrews for more than 600 years, having been the birthplace of the game of golf and our tour will give us an insight into the iconic landmarks and unique history. Whether you like the game or not, the tour gives a fascinating insight of the history of this famous venue. Our next stop is the Best Western Scores Hotel, the closest hotel to the Old Course, where we will enjoy the breathtakingly panoramic views of St Andrews Bay whilst we enjoy a cream tea. In the afternoon, we will have time to explore the town of St Andrew’s at our leisure. The Medieval centre of St Andrews consists of a series of narrow alleys and cobbled streets with shops, restaurants and cafés and we can spend time looking around the castle and now ruined cathedral. The town is of course also known for its romantic royal connections following romance blossoming here between Prince William and Kate Middleton during their time here at university.

Day 4 Glamis Castle & Discovery Point 96 mile round trip
Today, we visit Glamis Castle, known as Scotland’s most beautiful castle. During our guided tour we will learn all about the Castle’s history as the family home of the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne, the legendary setting for Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother and the birthplace of Princess Margaret. In the afternoon, we will visit Dundee where we will have free time for lunch followed by a visit to Discovery Point to explore Captain Scott’s ship, RRS Discovery, which he sailed for his remarkable Antarctic expedition.
