A Classic Weekend Break to Amsterdam

This new short break beautifully combines Cosmopolitan Amsterdam - including spare time to kick back and relax - along with the real authentic Holland we know and love, clogs and cheese - it’s a classic!
Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel before dinner.

Day 2 Volendam & Island of Marken
This morning we are met by our local costumed guide at the authentic fishers' island of Marken, an authentic Dutch village known for its colourful traditional clothing and monumental houses. On the Island we visit the Wooden Shoe Factory and learn how they make clogs following a 100 year old tradition and an opportunity to try a pair of wooden shoes yourself! After a short walk we will have a warm lunch in a traditional harbour restaurant. After lunch we board the Volendam-Marken Express ferry service as we sail the short distance to the picture postcard fishing village of Volendam. In Volendam we begin with a guided walking tour through the harbour and past traditional houses and cottages. We stop at the Cheese Factory in Volendam where we enter the World of Dutch Cheese! Here we discover the art of cheese making and taste several types of cheese. We continue our walking tour with a stop at Woltjes Backerij where we have a demonstration on how the world famous Dutch stroopwafels (syrup waffles) are made followed by a tasting! We have some free time to explore the village on our way back to the hotel.

Day 3 Amsterdam
We start today with a morning visit to the Het Concert Gebouw, an impressive concert hall, with equally impressive acoustics. Here we receive a pre-concert drink before sitting back and immersing ourselves in a 1 hour classical concert suitable for all music tastes, performed by some of the best orchestras and musicians around. We have free time for lunch before we head into the city and embark on a 1 hour boat trip along some of Amsterdam’s famous canals. Back on terra firma we’ll have time for further exploration at leisure before returning to our hotel for dinner.
Note: The concert is only available Jan to May & Sept to Dec. Outside these times, we enjoy free time in Amsterdam.

Day 4 Departure
After breakfast we begin our journey home.
