Cast your eye over some classic English sights on this engaging new tour based in Reading, which uncovers some highlights and secret gems of Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. We discover the art-filled rooms and gardens of the chateau-style Waddesdon Manor before venturing to ancient Oxford to soak up its glorious ‘Dreaming Spires’ and learned atmosphere. Finally, we slow the pace with a relaxed wine-tasting at the acclaimed Brightwell Vineyard.
PACKAGED ITINERARY
Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.
Day 2 Waddesdon Manor
Today revolves around a visit to Waddesdon Manor, a French Renaissance-style chateau set in a sweeping 5,000-acre estate in Buckinghamshire. Built in the late 19th century by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild, this imperious mansion houses an exceptional collection of French decorative arts and British paintings, alongside impressive formal gardens which feature a parterre, aviary and rose garden. We experience the opulent paintings and interiors of the house, explore its landscaped gardens and tuck into a cream tea at the restaurant before returning to our hotel.
Day 3 Oxford & Brightwell Vineyard
This morning we explore Oxford, famous for its ancient university and ‘Dreaming Spires’. Set along the River Thames and River Cherwell, this beautiful city consists of golden-hued colleges, quadrangles and 17th century treasures like the Ashmolean Museum. We enjoy a 1-hour guided Oxford walking tour, tracing its past and present and paying an optional visit to one of the university colleges, such as Magdalen or Christ Church. This afternoon, we take a guided tour of Brightwell Vineyard in the Chilterns, where we walk through the vines and enjoy 5 wine tastings.
Day 4 Departure
After breakfast, we make our way home.
