Bath City Break

Bath is the only city in the UK to be a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site in its entirety. Known for – and named after – its iconic Roman Baths and imposing Georgian architecture, there is so much to see and do. Explore the stunning buildings and monuments and discover fabulous collections in the museums and galleries for a taste of the city’s rich history and heritage.
The Roman Baths: A visit to Bath wouldn’t be complete without exploring the remains of one of the greatest religious spas of the ancient world. A whopping 2,000 years of history await at the remarkably well-preserved Roman Baths, where the unique thermal springs still flow with natural hot water. Walk on original Roman pavements, see the ruins of the Temple of Sulis Minerva and browse the museum collection of Roman artefacts. Be sure to taste the hot spa water complete with 43 minerals from the Pump Room fountain!

Bath Abbey: The spectacular Abbey boasts many striking features, including magnificent stained-glass windows, honey-gold stone columns and an exquisite fan vaulted ceiling.

Architecture: For breathtaking Georgian architecture, take a stroll along Royal Crescent, a sweeping row of 30 terraced houses, The Circus, a ring of large townhouses forming a circle, and Queen Square, a square of Georgian houses.

Pulteney Bridge & Shopping: Completed by 1774, Pulteney Bridge is another of the city’s iconic sights. One of just four bridges in the world to have shops across its full span on both sides, it’s a great spot to wander.

Theatre, Museums & Galleries: Catch a performance at the beautiful, Georgian Theatre Royal. Or visit one of the many museums and galleries such as the Jane Austen Centre, which chronicles the life and times of the famous writer; The Holburne Museum, home to fine and decorative arts built around the collection of Sir William Holburne; the Fashion Museum, which houses iconic attire from the 18th century to modern day; and the Victoria Art Gallery, which displays a collection of paintings, sculpture and decorative arts.

Parks, Gardens & Skyline: Enjoy some fresh air and admire pretty displays in one of Bath’s many lovely parks and gardens, including Parade Gardens, Sydney Gardens, Royal Victoria Park and the Botanical Gardens. Or stretch your legs on the six-mile Bath Skyline walk, a circular trail with lovely views over the city.
