Floralia Brussels 6 April – 4 May 2018
The magnificent Renaissance Castle of Grand-Bigard is located just outside Brussels and is only open to the public for one month in spring when the 14 hectares of gardens are in full bloom. The spring floral exhibition organised in the park and greenhouses of Grand-Bigard creates a multi-coloured dazzling display with more than 400 varieties of tulips, daffodils and roses attracting some 50,000 plant lovers annually.

Carpet of Flowers 16-19 August 2018
The first Flower Carpet of Brussels was created in 1971 and has been a showstopper on the Grand-Place every two years since 1986. One hundred volunteers assemble the 75m long by 24m wide flower carpet in just four hours, providing a heady fragrant scent amidst the Gothic architecture of the medieval square. This extraordinary spectacle is made complete by a visit to the balcony of the Town Hall, which offers a wide-angle view of the work. A musical theme is also commissioned and a concert takes place on the Grand-Place each evening accompanied by a magnificent sound and light show.

Royal Greenhouses Mid-April to beginning of May
For just three weeks each spring the exclusive Royal Greenhouses of Laeken are open to the public, a custom that has occurred for over a century and certainly not to be missed. These incredible structures of steel and glass were the brainchild of King Leopold II during the late 19th century and still house today much of his admired botanical collection. Entrance fee is €2.50 (2017 rates) and visits last for approximately 1.5 hours. Please note tickets cannot be pre-booked and admission needs to be paid directly.

Botanic Garden Meise
The Botanic Garden Meise is located in the grounds of Bouchout Castle in the town of Meise, just north of Brussels. The gardens cover an area of 92 hectares and hold 18,000 plants from around the world. The castle regularly houses exhibitions and the gardens contain enchanting oak, conifer, magnolia, hydrangea, rhododendron, maple and wild rose collections.

Belgium’s exciting and cosmopolitan capital city is full of state of the art museums, excellent cuisine and great shopping. No visit to Brussels would be complete without a stroll around the Grand Place, arguably one of the most beautiful squares in Europe and surrounded by 39 impressive merchant guild houses and the magnificent Town Hall. Brussels is also a great place from which to explore the nearby historic cities of Leuven, Mechelen, Ghent and Antwerp.
