Cambridge, Cromwell & a Cruise

Our tour includes a visit to the Georgian town of Stamford, a tea cruise on Rutland Water, a guided walking tour of Kings College Cambridge, a visit to the cathedral city of Ely and a guided tour of Oliver Cromwell’s House.

Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Stamford & Rutland Water Tea Cruise
We spend the morning in Stamford, widely regarded as one of the finest stone towns in
England. Built in Georgian times, the pretty facades of the town are favourites with film and television producers – Stamford was used as Meryton in the 2005 Pride & Prejudice film and has also appeared in Middlemarch, The Da Vinci Code and the Golden Bowl. Stamford has a bustling market day every Friday with local vegetables, meats, pies, bread and fresh fish. Stamford’s narrow alleyways and hidden courtyards are home to a variety of speciality shops, fine jewellers and designer boutiques, whilst the high street has a great choice of independent and recognised retailers. In the afternoon we head to Rutland Water where we enjoy a lake cruise with a cream tea.

Day 3 Cambridge
This morning, we enjoy a 2 hour guided walking tour of Cambridge University, which includes Trinity Hall and iconic King’s College Chapel. Afterwards, we visit The Eagle pub, famous for its ceiling inscribed with WW2 RAF pilots’ signatures. In the afternoon, we enjoy time at leisure in the city centre. Please note, access to the colleges cannot always be guaranteed during exam periods and when other events are being held.

Day 4 Ely
We spend this morning in the historic city of Ely where we can visit the magnificent 12th
century Cathedral before walking to Oliver Cromwell’s House, where we enjoy a guided tour. The half-timbered house, parts of which date back to the 13th century, provide a fascinating snapshot of 17th century family life. The remainder of our day can be spent at leisure in Ely.

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, we make our way home.
