Captivating Costa Brava 2019

The Costa Brava is one of Spain’s most attractive holiday coasts and our fantastic itinerary takes in two of its magnificent cities, beautiful coastal resorts and historic, medieval villages.
Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel before dinner.

Day 2 Calella Driver’s Day Off (Calella)
With its historic quarter, promenade and 3kms of blue flag, award-winning sandy beaches, we are able to enjoy the warm Mediterranean climate in beautiful Calella.

Day 3 Barcelona
No visit to the Costa Brava would be complete without taking a trip to Barcelona, the stylish capital of Catalonia. There is so much to see here that a day will hardly seem long enough! For peaceful tranquillity, visit the church of Santa Anna (admission fee is cash only: 2 Euros on the door), a hidden treasure tucked away right in the city centre, just off the Plaça de Catalunya among the main shopping streets. Then, admire the classical architectural beauty of Barcelona Cathedral before sitting back and enjoying the incredible views of the skyline from the new Montjuïc Cable Car as it glides over the beautiful Jardí Botànic, a large botanical garden on the Montjuïc Hill, to the summit crowned by Montjuïc Castle. We can also explore the distinctive architecture of Antoni Gaudí, fabulously showcased at the Sagrada Família or, if you prefer, visit Camp Nou, the home of Barcelona Football Club!

Day 4 Besalú & Girona
This morning, we head for the historic gem of Besalú, a magnificent example of a medieval town and one of the best preserved in Spain. Full to the brim with character, we can explore its cobbled streets, admire the ancient facades of its impressive architecture representing Romanesque, Gothic and medieval influences and also its magnificent Viejo Bridge. In the afternoon, we make our way to the historic city of Girona, where the beautiful Roman walled old quarter (Força Vella) is dominated by the 11th century cathedral tower and its baroque facade. Its gothic nave is the largest of its kind in the world! Located within the Força Vella is the Jewish Quarter (or ‘Call’), one of the city’s most remarkable areas. A labyrinth of narrow medieval streets and passageways makes this area one of the most picturesque in Catalonia. Other attractions worth exploring in Girona are the Arab Baths (built in the 12th century), complete with changing rooms and a relaxation area, and the Basílica de Sant Feliu, with its castle-like appearance and priceless works of art.

Day 5 Tossa de Mar Driver’s Day Off (Tossa)
Today, we spend time discovering the medieval walled town of Tossa de Mar. Prehistoric remains coexist with Roman and medieval buildings in this ancient fisherman’s village that now draws artists and writers to its shores from far and wide and with a market day on Thursdays, there is plenty to enjoy.

Day 6 Tossa de Mar/Calella
We spend today at leisure in our resort, perhaps choosing to enjoy a boat trip along the Costa Brava from Tossa de Mar or Calella. This will provides us with the chance to admire the long, wide-stretching golden sandy beaches and small coves that line this unique coastline.

Day 7 Departure
After breakfast we begin our journey home.
