Celtic Coasts & Castles

Our new Pembrokeshire and County Wexford twin centre Packaged Itinerary offers a great value way to experience the stunning coasts and medieval castles of two contrasting waterfront destinations.
Day 1 Arrival in South Wales
We arrive at our hotel and have free time to settle in prior to dinner.

Day 2 Pembroke Castle 56 mile round trip
Today, we will visit Pembroke Castle, mighty fortress and birthplace of Henry VII, idyllically set on the banks of the river estuary. This enormous oval medieval castle is mostly surrounded by a serene mill pond. During our guided tour we will discover the history and stories behind Pembroke Castle and how it was extensively restored during Victorian times. We can enjoy lunch at leisure at the castle or alternatively enjoy free time in the walled town of Pembroke which surrounds the castle.

Day 3 Tenby 68 mile round trip
This morning we travel to the pretty picture postcard town of Tenby. Here we can spend the day exploring quaint streets and 13th century medieval town walls, strolling around the picturesque harbour, visiting the Tenby Museum and Art Gallery or just relaxing on the golden sands of this beautiful resort. During our day at leisure we can enjoy lunch at one of the many restaurants and tearooms. In the afternoon we could take a short boat trip to Caldey Island.

Day 4 St. Davids & Ferry to Ireland 43 miles
After breakfast this morning, we will visit charming St Davids, the smallest city in Britain, with a population of little more than 1,600. St David, the patron saint of Wales, lived here in the 4th century and the town is located in a designated conservation area. We can spend time strolling around the lanes and visiting St. Davids Cathedral before re-joining our coach and travelling back to Fishguard to board our ferry for the afternoon sailing to Rosslare. When we arrive in Rosslare we travel the short distance to the Talbot Hotel Wexford, our base for the next three nights.

Day 5 Kilkenny & Kilkenny Castle 112 mile round trip
After breakfast, we will travel to medieval Kilkenny where we will spend our day. Here we visit Kilkenny Castle, one of the most magnificent castles in Ireland, built by the Normans who arrived in the city during the 12th century. After our tour of the castle we will enjoy free time to explore this compact medieval city with so many beautifully restored historical buildings, traditional pubs, shops, design galleries and restaurants. We may also choose to visit Smithwick’s Experience or St Canice’s Cathedral.

Day 6 Waterford 76 mile round trip
Today we head for Ireland’s oldest city, Waterford. We can take time to explore, starting with a visit to Waterford Medieval Treasures, which tells the fascinating story of the city in an interactive, high-tech museum. We may then decide to visit the nearby House of Waterford Crystal, now located in the city centre or take a stroll along the quay before enjoying lunch at leisure. In the afternoon, we return to our base in the town of Wexford with its small boutiques, cobbled streets, local shops and many traditional pubs.

Day 7 Departure 12 mile trip to harbour
After an early breakfast, we will leave our hotel to board the morning ferry from Rosslare to Fishguard and begin our journey home.
