Celtic Connections - Irish Gems & Scottish Coasts

We have created a twin centre tour that will allow your customers to discover the beauty and history of the Antrim Coast and Derry-Londonderry during the first half of their trip before experiencing Scotland’s stunning Ayrshire Coast and the Isle of Arran.
Day 1 Arrival in Derry -Londonderry
Following our ferry crossing from Holyhead we arrive in Dublin and travel to the City Hotel with time to settle in prior to dinner this evening.

Day 2 Derry-Londonderry & Guildhall Drivers Day Off
This morning, we meet our informative guide for a 2 hour walking tour of Derry. We will have an absolutely fascinating morning listening to stories about the walls around Derry and how the relationship between two different communities evolved. After lunch, we will visit the Tower Museum and enjoy a 1 hour guided tour of this fascinating place nestled within the city’s historic walls. We will gain a greater understanding of the political conflicts that have shaped the city and the country at large. We will then walk to the neo-gothic Guildhall, one of Derry’s most recognisable landmarks, with its stunning stained glass windows and unique history. We can spend the rest of the day at leisure before returning to our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 3 Giant’s Causeway 89 mile round trip
Today we visit the extraordinary Giant’s Causeway, the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland flanked by the wild North Atlantic Ocean on one side and a landscape of dramatic cliffs on the other. For centuries the Giant’s Causeway has inspired artists, stirred scientific debate and captured the imagination of all who see it. The mystery and stories of the landscape are now explained in the award winning Visitor Centre. We can then visit the beautiful harbour town of Portrush before making the return journey by coach to our hotel in time for dinner.

Note - A visit to the Old Bushmills Distillery can also be incorporated, please call the Sales Team for a quotation.

Day 4 From Derry to Troon 124 miles
After enjoying our full Irish breakfast we will say goodbye to the City Hotel and travel to Belfast to board the 11.30 am Stena ferry for our 2 hour 20 minute sailing to Cairnryan. We then continue onto our hotel for the next 3 nights in Troon.

Day 5 Culzean Castle & Troon 43 mile round trip
This morning we visit the magnificent Culzean Castle (National Trust Scotland) with its dramatic clifftop setting. The castle was designed by architect Robert Adam and has a fascinating history. Built in stages between 1777 and 1792 the castle boasts a grand oval staircase, many treasure-filled rooms and is reputed to be home to no less than seven ghosts, including a piper and a servant girl! Surrounded by an extensive estate encompassing lush woodland, landscaped gardens and rugged coastline, we will have plenty to enjoy. Lunch can be enjoyed at leisure in the Home Farm or Stables cafés. In the afternoon we return to Troon and have time to relax and use the hotel’s excellent facilities. Alternatively the town centre is approximately 1 mile from the hotel, so we can enjoy a leisurely walk along the seafront or a taxi can be arranged by the hotel for those wishing to explore a little further.

Day 6 Isle of Arran 62 mile round trip
Today we board the ferry for our crossing to The Isle of Arran, known as ‘Scotland in Miniature’. Arran is like a condensed version of the rest of Scotland, with its mountains, lochs, rolling hills, meadows and stunning coastlines. Our first stop is Brodick Castle, where history can be traced back as far as the Vikings. The setting is fronted by the sea, bedecked with gardens and surrounded by hills and overlooked by the majestic mountain of Goatfell. After free time for lunch we take a scenic drive around the island, making a final stop at Arran Aromatics, Scotland’s largest independent manufacturer of branded toiletries, soaps and candles, all of which are made on the island using natural ingredients. From here we take a return crossing to the mainland and make our way back to our hotel for dinner.

Day 7 Departure
This morning, we leave our lovely hotel and begin our journey home.
