Chantilly Flower Show & Monet’s Garden

Almost 30 years after its creation by a handful of enthusiasts, the wonderful Chantilly Flower Show has become the main European horticultural event in France. Bringing together 200 exhibitors – including nurseries, horticulturists and professionals from the plant trade – ‘Les Journées des Plantes’ lets visitors purchase plants, flowers and shrubs, and seek advice on maintaining gardens. From orchids to carnivorous plants and perennials, everything will be covered to delight gardening enthusiasts!

Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Chantilly Flower Show
We spend a full day at the Chantilly Flower Show (Journée des Plantes) admiring floral exhibits, chatting to experts, and loading our purchases onto the coach to take home with us (subject to prevailing import regulations). Displays range from orchids to perennials, trees and shrubs, as well as garden equipment and accessories. The show takes place in the stunning grounds of Chantilly Castle – one of France’s finest historical monuments – and our Flower Show entrance ticket also includes entry to the Château, where we can admire the fine collection of paintings and enjoy the Château facilities, including a waiter-service restaurant, small shop and bathroom facilities. In the grounds of the show, we can take a break by relaxing on the lawns and perhaps sipping a glass of Champagne whilst admiring the views across the stunning lake. There are various food outlets around the park, as well as the main restaurant in the Castle.

Day 3 Monet’s Garden at Giverny & Vernon
We take an early breakfast this morning before making our way to Monet’s country retreat in Giverny to visit the impressionist painter’s charming pink house and iconic gardens. As we relax in the gardens at leisure, we admire the Japanese bridge and famous waterlily pond. We then head to the pretty neighbouring village of Vernon, complete with 200 half-timbered houses with ancient doors and carved timbers. We wander along cobbled paths, taking in the famous Old Mill and the wrought iron shop signs. We have free time for lunch here and can spend the afternoon exploring the church, museums, village and banks of the River Seine at leisure.

Day 4 Departure
After breakfast, we begin our journey home.
