Charm ‘em in Arnhem

Our packaged tour of Arnhem takes in a slice of everyday Dutch life and history at the Netherlands Open Air Museum as well as a more opulent look at the impressive royal gardens at stunning Het Loo Palace. We also enjoy a Whisper boat cruise around the historic town of Zutphen, one of the oldest in Holland. Friendly and down to earth Arnhem offers a great value for money alternative base to the bigger Dutch names.

Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Netherlands Open Air Museum & Arnhem
After breakfast, we travel the short distance to the fascinating Netherlands Open Air Museum where we enjoy a 1 hour guided tour. Displaying a slice of Dutch life and history, this open air park is the setting for over 80 original historic buildings including houses, farmhouses and mills where we can meet friendly farmers, the blacksmith, fisherman and miller who provide us with an interactive history of the country and its heritage. We can travel on an historic tram around the park and enjoy lunch at the Museum café, before we return to Arnhem, with free time to explore the quaint shopping streets or perhaps visit the ‘Bridge Too Far’, all within walking distance of our hotel.

Day 3 Het Loo Palace Gardens & Zutphen
This morning, we visit the beautiful gardens of the Dutch Baroque 17th century Het Loo Palace, the former royal residence of the Dutch royal family. We enjoy a guided tour of the gardens which feature symmetrical parterres, impressive fresh water fountains and garden sculptures from Greek mythology. In the afternoon, we visit the Hanseatic town of Zutphen, one of Holland’s oldest towns. We spend time at leisure before embarking on a 1 hour Whisper electric boat cruise on the River Berkel and the canals around the medieval centre of Zutphen, hearing commentary from our skipper as we pass by its historic monuments and places of interest.

Day 4 Departure
We begin our journey home today.
