Cumbrian Border Explorer

Enjoy a cross-border tour crossing counties and countries as we include a day in Northumbria, a day in the Lake district with a lake cruise and distillery visit and a day in Scotland where we take part in a wedding re-enactment in Gretna Green - we propose this will be an interesting tour!
Day 1 Arrival In Brampton
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Hadrian’s Wall, Vindolanda & Hexham
After breakfast we meet our step-on-guide for a full day guided tour of Hadrian’s Wall and
Hexham. We travel through fabulous scenery along the route of Hadrian’s Wall with our first visit being to the award winning Vindolanda Fort & Museum, one of Europe’s most important Roman archaeological sites. After exploring, we have free time to enjoy lunch here before visiting the charming market town of Hexham and continuing our tour along Military Road en route back to our hotel.

Day 3 Ullswater Lake District
This morning, we drive to the Lake District taking a scenic route along Ullswater, the second largest lake in the National Park. We arrive at Pooley Bridge pier and enjoy a 1 hour Ullswater steamer cruise to the south side of the lake to Glenridding. We rejoin our coach and make our way to nearby Derwent Water Lake, stopping at the pretty town of Keswick where we have free time for lunch, before heading to The Lakes Distillery. England’s largest distillery produces whiskey, gin and vodka set in a stunning
location next to Bassenthwaite Lake, and we enjoy a guided tour with a tasting of three spirits.

Day 4 Gretna
Today we travel into Scotland and visit the award winning Devil's Porridge Museum where the majority of munitions were produced during WW1 by an army of women determined to do their bit for the war effort. Our next visit is to the Gretna Green Blacksmiths Shop, the historic hotspot for elopements! We will experience a wedding re-enactment at The Gretna Green Story Exhibition, housed within the original blacksmiths cottage and workshop.

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast we begin our journey home.
