Delightful Dolomites, Bolzano & Verona

Our new tour showcases the spectacular UNESCO listed Dolomite Mountain region with the opportunity to explore the beautiful south Tyrol capital of Bolzano, the gateway to the area. With ornate Romanesque and Gothic architecture, this scenic city is popular as the location of Otzi, a fully preserved pre-historic hunter and Ritten Renon, the single gauge historic train with jaw-dropping views across the Dolomites. To see more of this delightful area, we drive through the Brenta National Park, and for a day of romance we visit the city of Verona.
PACKAGED ITINERARY

Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Fai della Paganella Driver’s Day Off
Today, Fausto will play host and take us out for a gentle walk around this friendly
village. We enjoy a picnic with great company, food and wine... and start to get into
the relaxed ‘Paganella way of life’ in the mountains!

Day 3 Bolzano, Otzi The Iceman and the Ritten Rennon Railway
Today travel up to the beautiful South Tyrol capital of Bolzano, where we visit the South
Tyrol Archaeological Museum to marvel at Otzi, the Iceman, a fully preserved prehistoric hunter found beneath a melting glacier in the Dolomites. After an hour’s guided tour, we enjoy free time in Bolzano to explore and have some lunch and perhaps a delicious strudel! In the afternoon, take the city’s cable car up to Sopra Bolzano and from there be thrilled on a unique, single gauge, historic train ride with magnificent views – alternatively drive up to Sopra Bolzano and just take the train from here.

Day 4 Brenta Dolomites Loop
Today enjoy a fantastic day driving through the spectacular Brenta National Park sector of the Italian Dolomites. Initially, we follow the Sole River up through the scenic ‘Val di Sole’ to Dimaro and from here climb up to the stylish town of Madonna di Campiglio. This fashionable mountain retreat boasts an array of designer shops, cafés and excellent restaurants frequented by the well-heeled ‘Milanesi’. Take some free time to explore and grab a bite to eat. As we depart Campiglio, we’ll get some great views of the jagged limestone peaks across the valley and then we loop round via Tione di Trento and the lovely lake at Molveno before heading back to our base, the Hotel Paganella.

Day 5 Verona
Today we travel to the romantic capital of Europe, Verona. Situated on the banks of the River Adige, it is perhaps best known for its association with Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and is one of northern Italy’s most attractive cities. Boasting a rich array of art and architecture, its heart is dominated by a mammoth, remarkably well-preserved 1st century Roman amphitheatre, the venue for the city’s annual summer opera festival. Verona is a shoppers’ paradise with something for everyone – from the daily market in Piazza delle Erbe to the stylish designer shops on Via Mazzini – while the Piazza Bra is the largest piazza in Verona, lined with numerous cafés and restaurants.

Day 6 Departure
After breakfast, we begin our journey home.
