Discover the Heart of Europe on a Danube River Cruise

Immerse yourself in the fascinating history and culture of the heart of Europe on a Danube river cruise. The cruise starts in Linz which is famous for its fine churches, museums and culture and highlights include time in Vienna as well as a visit to Budapest. This is a wonderful opportunity to sail the waters immortalised by the composer Strauss in "The Blue Danube". Other stops include Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, Dürnstein, one of the most visited tourist destinations in the Wachau region, and Melk with its Baroque abbey.
Day 1 Embark Linz
We arrive late afternoon in Linz for embarkation. If we arrive earlier, we may take the opportunity to visit the Altes Rathaus (old town hall) with its pretty arcade courtyard.

Day 2 River Danube
The vessel departs Linz at 05.00 hrs for a full day of cruising on the Danube. Enjoy the scenery as we make our way to Vienna, arriving at 18.00 hrs. The driver's rest period can start here.

Day 3 Vienna
Spend the day exploring Vienna, a wonderful city with a fantastic mix of imperial palaces and residences, Art Nouveau masterpieces and excellent pedestrian areas.  The Hofburg Palace is the former imperial palace in the centre of Vienna, which was home to the Hapsburg dynasty.  Part of the palace forms the official residence and workplace of the President of Austria and the palace estate features the Spanish Riding School, the Treasury and several museums.  St. Stephen’s Cathedral is a vital part of the city skyline and just outside the city is the renowned Schoenbrunn Palace.  After our day in Vienna, we will depart for an overnight sailing to Budapest at 18.00 hrs.

Day 4 Budapest
We spend today on board the ship as we make our way through pristine scenery arriving in the capital of Hungary, Budapest.  We will have the late evening to explore the city.  On the hilly Buda side we can explore the Hungary of old in the medieval castle district. On the flat Pest side admire the oldest historical monuments such as Heroes Square. A lively café culture has emerged once again in Budapest, with a multitude of cafés and restaurants popping up in the pedestrianised zones.

Day 5 Bratislava
Departing Budapest in the early hours of the morning, we will cruise towards Bratislava, arriving around lunchtime.  We can enjoy the afternoon in one of the youngest capitals of Europe. Located on the banks of the River Danube, Bratislava is a seaside resort without the sea, and offers a rich mix of cultures and cuisine for visitors to discover. From May, the restaurants put out their tables and chairs on the streets, making this an ideal spot to enjoy a glass of white Riesling wine.

Day 6 Dürnstein
Today, we will be able to enjoy the scenery along the River Danube as we set sail from Bratislava en route to Dürnstein, the most famous medieval Danube river town in the Wachau region of Austria. We will arrive late afternoon and be able to appreciate this incredibly beautiful town, with its famous ruined castle illuminated at night.

Day 7 Melk & Linz
We depart Dürnstein and make our way along the River Danube to Melk. The Benedictine Abbey dominates this little town, perched on a hill that slopes steeply down to the Danube. We will have a few hours to explore Melk before we depart for your journey back to Linz.

Day 8 Disembark Linz
We will disembark after breakfast in Linz and you make our way back home to the UK.
