Discovering the Italian Coasts 2020

Our fabulous twin centre packaged tour explores the beautiful coastline surrounding the Ligurian Sea as we travel south from the Italian Riviera towards Tuscany, ticking off the big names including Santa Margherita, Portofino & the Cinque Terre. We also visit one of the oldest cities in Tuscany and one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, rounded off with a fantastic lunch in a local Fattoria.
PACKAGED ITINERARY
Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel before dinner.

Day 2 San Bartolomeo Driver’s Day Off
We spend today relaxing by the pool or strolling along the lovely sandy beach near our hotel.

Day 3 Alassio & Cervo
This morning, we visit the vibrant resort of Alassio. Having been popular with British Victorian holidaymakers, the resort is full of expatriate heritage, including an English language library which is one of the oldest in Italy. We can enjoy wandering around the Budello di Alassio, where the history of the town can be most appreciated, with its numerous shops, churches and piazzas and stroll along its impressive, sandy beach – one of the best in Italy! In the afternoon, we make our way back to our hotel via the ancient hilltop village of Cervo (if steps and steep inclines are not an issue) classed as one of the “most beautiful villages in Italy”.

Day 4 Viareggio & Portofino
After checking out of our first hotel, we travel round the coast to Viareggio, but not before stopping at the popular seaside resort of Rapallo from where we enjoy a relaxing boat ride along the coast, around the headland and into the chic and famous resort of Portofino. Set in an incredibly scenic location, this internationally renowned gem regularly entertains the world’s jet set. We spend time at leisure here before returning by boat to Rapallo. Please note, the boat departure point is subject to change and may depart from Santa Margherita instead.

Day 5 Cinque Terre
Today we travel to La Spezia where we meet our full day guide, for a journey into the wonderful and colourful world of Le Cinque Terre, the ‘Five Lands’. These quaint and incredibly scenic fishing villages can only be visited by boat or train due to their location on the rugged coastline of the Mediterranean. We travel by boat to Monterosso via Portovenere and Vernazza. Monterosso is a sumptuous village where we have plenty of opportunity to browse the shops and enjoy a seafood lunch, before returning by train to Levanto.

Day 6 Lucca & Fattoria il Poggio
This morning, we enjoy a 1 hour guided tour of beautiful Lucca, one of the oldest cities in Tuscany. The elegant Old Town is still enclosed by its ancient city walls within which are some of the finest examples of the “Pisan Romanesque” style architecture. Lucca Cathedral has a magnificent Romanesque facade as well as important Renaissance art. Home to a maze of narrow cobbled streets, beautiful churches and chapels, we have time to explore at leisure before we head to Fattoria il Poggio for a fantastic lunch!

Day 7 Departure
After breakfast we begin our journey home.
