Our new packaged tour of Suffolk features the fantastic attractions of Ickworth House, Palace House in Newmarket, the Dad’s Army Museum in Thetford and Bressingham Steam & Gardens, as well as visits to the historic towns of Lavenham and Sudbury. Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Ickworth House (NT) & Lavenham/Sudbury
This morning, we visit Suffolk’s very own Italianate palace, Ickworth House, famous for its classical Rotunda which forms the centrepiece of the estate. We begin our visit with a 45 minute guided tour of the house State Rooms where we learn about how Earl Bishop designed Ickworth and the grand artwork and fine furniture collections that have been brought to the house over the years. Designed to impress, the house is set in an ancient deer park, with formal gardens, pleasure grounds, rolling Suffolk landscape and a beautiful Italianate garden. In the afternoon, we enjoy free time in Lavenham, the finest medieval village in England, and the historic market town of Sudbury.

Day 3 Palace House Newmarket
We begin our day with a visit to the National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art at Palace House in Newmarket. Occupying the last remaining part of King Charles II’s sporting palace and stables, this interesting attraction is steeped in history. We enjoy a 90 minute guided tour before we have the chance to see former racehorses training in the flagship yard of Retraining of Horses. This is a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the friendly heroes of the racing world who all love a pat! With the National Horse Racing Museum and British sporting art galleries also on site, there is plenty to enjoy. From here, we head to Newmarket where we enjoy free time for lunch before returning to Bury St Edmunds where we spend the remainder of the afternoon at leisure.

Day 4 Dad’s Army Museum & Bressingham Steam & Gardens
Our day begins with a visit to the Dad’s Army Museum in Thetford (Walmington-on-Sea) where the series was filmed. We enjoy an entertaining and nostalgic 45 minute guided mini location tour of “Walmington-on-Sea”, where we take in the many filming locations used, the bronze statue of Captain Mainwaring and Jones’s butcher’s van before ending with a visit to the museum which includes tea/coffee and biscuits in the Marigold Tea Room. We enjoy free time for lunch in Thetford before we head to Bressingham Steam & Gardens in the afternoon. We have time to view the exhibitions (no rides included) and enjoy the unique gardens, renowned worldwide for their horticultural excellence, which offer the perfect space for relaxing and enjoying the scenery.
