Down Anchor in Ostend! 2020

A lively harbour, beautiful sandy beaches, pretty squares, a casino, well-kept parks, a stylish pedestrianised shopping area, a Vistrap (fish market), a pier and a wealth of fabulous museums make this town a great Continental short break destination.
Belgium’s most popular seaside resort, Ostend, has an individual charm, characterful seafront, marinas, bustling markets and shops, great seafood restaurants, lively night life and a casino. Perfect for a leisurely break, taking a stroll along the pier or relax on the beach, Ostend is also well positioned for day trips to Bruges, Ghent and Ypres.

The Atlantic Wall Museum
The museum features over 60 bunkers, observation posts and artillery positions across 2km of open or underground corridors that make up the infamous German Atlantic Wall (unsuitable for wheelchairs). This defence line was built by the Germans during WWII and the museum houses the only preserved German coastal battery. The buildings have been restored to their original condition in order to recreate the atmosphere of the time.

Medieval Fishing Village Of Walraversijde
One of the most important archaeological sites in Flanders, the village consists of four reconstructed fishermen’s dwellings, providing a vision of life here 800 years ago, as does the museum’s rich collection of medieval objects excavated here.

Museum Amandine
Once an Icelandic fishing boat, the Amandine is now a fascinating interactive museum permanently moored at the renovated Visserskaai in the heart of Ostend’s marina.

Ensor House
A unique, colourful and slightly bewildering time capsule that will transport us back to the early 20th century world of Ostend artist, James Ensor. The Dead Rat Ball, the most celebrated festival in Ostend was created by James Ensor and his friends.

Ostend at Anchor (Annually)
The 'Ostend at Anchor' event takes place over four days during the last weekend in May and is one of Europe’s largest classic maritime festivals. It attracts over 100 classic ships, themed musical performances, demonstrations, displays and a crafts village.
