Elegant Ely, Cambridge & The Theory of Everything

When people think of Cambridgeshire, Kings College Chapel and punting along the River Cam probably come to mind. Well, both are included in one of our most popular tours! We will also be following in the footsteps of the great minds that spent their formative years in Cambridge.
Day 1 Arrival
This morning, we make our way to our hotel and have time to settle in before dinner this evening.

Day 2 Elegant Ely 47/31 mile round trip
This morning, we make our way to the historic, charming city of Ely, home to one of the most magnificent cathedrals in England. We will receive an informative guided tour of the magnificent, 12th century cathedral before walking to Oliver Cromwell’s House, where the Lord Protector lived for ten years. We will meet our costumed guide and experience what domestic life was like in the 17th century during the Civil War. After lunch we will visit The Ely Museum.

Day 3 Cambridge & the Theory of Everything 20/9 mile round trip
This morning, we will travel to Cambridge and enjoy a 2 hour guided walking tour of Cambridge University, which will include Trinity Hall, Cambridge, where Stephen Hawking studied for his PhD in Astrophysics in the 1960s. We will also visit Cambridge’s oldest college, Peterhouse, before making our way to the iconic King’s College (once attended by Alan Turing, the ‘father’ of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence) and King’s College Chapel. We will then enjoy lunch at The Eagle, a 14th century pub with its famous RAF ceiling inscribed with signatures of RAF pilots who fought during WW2. In the afternoon, we will visit The Fitzwilliam Museum before relaxing on a 45 minute‘Chauffeur Punt’ along the River Cam.

Please note: Access to the colleges cannot always be guaranteed as they are closed during exam periods and at other times when events are being held

Day 4 The Museum of Cambridge & Grantchester 21/12 mile round trip
This morning, we will discover the vibrant history of Cambridge life in the 17th century, timber-framed Museum of Cambridge. We will experience nine different room settings, including the kitchen, bar, folklore and childhood rooms. We will then make our way to the quintessential English village of Grantchester, the setting of the ITV drama of the same name, and the location of The Orchard Tea Garden where we can enjoy an afternoon tea. We can explore this ‘picture postcard’ village at our leisure this afternoon.

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, we leave our hotel and return to our local area.
