Elegant Opatija & Istrian Islands

Day 1 Arrival
Arriving at our hotel in Opatija we enjoy our welcome drink whilst our luggage is taken to our room.

Day 2 Opatija Driver’s Day Off
We are free today to explore Opatija with its 12km promenade lined with impressive villas and pretty gardens, and a centre brimming with chic shops, Viennese style coffee houses, bars and restaurants.

Day 3 Brijuni Islands & Pula 202km/126 mile round trip
This morning we head to the port of Fažana, close to Pula and enjoy a 20 minute boat journey to the Brijuni National Park, comprising 14 beautiful islands. During our visit we enjoy a sightseeing tour on a land train which includes a visit to a safari park, archaeological museum, Roman ruins, a Venetian castle and Mediterranean gardens. Cafés and restaurants are available for a lunch stop before returning to the mainland. In the afternoon we visit Pula, the largest town in Istria, famous for its magnificent Roman amphitheatre holding up to 25,000 spectators. Pula’s other monuments include Hercules’ Gate, the Temple of Augustus and the Triumphal Arch.

Day 4 Krk 130km/81 mile round trip
Today we enjoy a scenic Adriatic drive to one of Croatia’s largest and most interesting islands, Krk, which is connected to the mainland by a bridge. On the island’s southwestern coast, Krk Town clusters around a medieval walled centre and includes a beach, seafront promenade and port.

Day 5 Rovinj & Pore? 202km/126 mile round trip
This morning we head for the west coast of the Istrian Peninsula and visit the resort of Rovinj. Originally an island, the historic town is one of the Mediterranean’s few remaining true fishing ports. During our visit we have time to explore the picturesque historic centre that was modelled on Venice and the impressive church of Santa Euphemia, the largest baroque building in Istra. In the afternoon we make our way to Pore?, a lively resort that is also full of cultural sites including the 6th century Byzantine Basilica of St. Euphrasia. Its exquisite mosaics are amongst the world’s most beautiful works of art and are listed by UNESCO.

Day 6 Departure
After our farewell drink we take in the last views of Opatija before departing for the return journey to the UK.
