Frontline Kent

Kent has played a significant role in Britain’s maritime history and has been on the frontline of England’s shores for centuries. Our tour includes a visit to Dover Castle and its evocative Wartime Tunnels, the Battle of Britain Memorial atop the famous White Cliffs, a steam train journey, a brewery tour and a visit to Canterbury Cathedral.
Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Dover Castle & Battle of Britain Memorial
Today, we visit Dover Castle, where we experience its unique Secret Wartime Tunnels where the dramatic rescue operation of the 1940 ‘Miracle of Dunkirk’ is vividly brought to life. We then take a fascinating guided tour of the authentic Underground Hospital. There is also the “Fire Command Post” attraction to enjoy
which reveals the story of how the castle acted as the military headquarters for the garrison fortress of over 10,000 men stationed in the Dover area. En route back to our hotel, we stop at the Battle of Britain Memorial in Capel-le-Ferne (free entry). The National Memorial is a peaceful spot where the heroes of the Battle of Britain are commemorated in this unique location high on the white cliffs.
Please note, the upper floor of the castle Great Tower has steep flights of narrow steps and there are some very steep slopes and cobbled walkways within the grounds.

Day 3 Ales & Rails
This morning, we visit the picturesque market town of Tenterden where we enjoy a guided tour and tasting at the award winning Old Dairy Brewery which is housed in two old World War II Nissen buildings. We then stroll a few yards to embark on a return steam train journey to Bodiam on the Kent & East Sussex Railway whilst enjoying a delicious Ploughman’s lunch, after which we have time to explore Tenterden a little more.

Day 4 Canterbury
Today, we visit the historic city of Canterbury and the oldest cathedral in England, Canterbury Cathedral. We have the opportunity to join a tour to learn about its story and treasures before spending the afternoon at leisure in the city.

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, we make our way home.
