Get Steamy in Fort William

The highlight of our fabulous Scottish west coast tour is a spectacular journey on the famous Jacobite steam train from Fort William to Mallaig, considered to be one of the greatest railway journeys in the world. We also feature a delightful wildlife cruise, an exhilarating ride on Britain’s only mountain gondola and go in search of the world’s shyest monster on a cruise of Loch Ness…sit back, relax and enjoy the monster views!

Rob says…
“Fort William is known as the ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK’ and is famous worldwide. Nestled on the shores of Loch Linnhe the touring possibilities from this area are as vast as the mountains surrounding it.”

Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Oban
This morning we take a scenic drive along Loch Linnhe to Oban, the unofficial capital of the West Highlands, acclaimed as the ‘Gateway to the Isles’. We spend the day at leisure exploring the town’s attractions, such as McCaig’s Tower, Oban Distillery and the Caithness Glass Visitor Centre. Please contact the Sales Team if you prefer to explore the Isle of Mull on this day.

Day 3 Nevis Range & Loch Ness
Today, we take a ride on a gondola at Nevis Range. Britain’s only mountain gondola will transport us from 300ft up to 2150ft on the north face of Aonach Mor,
the 8th highest mountain in Britain. During the short journey (12-15 minutes each way) marvel at the stunning views of the Scottish Highlands, including the Great Glen and Ben Nevis. We enjoy free time to visit the restaurant, take in the panoramic views and wander around the Mountain Discovery Centre before we return to ground level. In the afternoon we head to Fort Augustus and attempt to track down the world’s shyest monster on a 50 minute cruise of legendary Loch Ness. Brimming with history and monster tales, the real stars of the Loch are its castles, monuments and scenery.

Day 4 Jacobite Steam Train & Wildlife Cruise
Today, we embark on a journey described as the greatest railway journey in the world, on the famous Jacobite Steam Train, which will take us on an 84 mile return journey from Fort William to Mallaig. Along the way, we encounter spectacular scenery and travel across the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct’s magnificent 21 arches, featured in the Harry Potter films. On arrival in the fishing village of Mallaig, we embark on a 1 hour wildlife cruise with a free whisky tasting on board, travelling out to Green Island on the Knoydart Peninsula, where we will see seals relaxing on the rocks. The waters are frequently visited by a variety of birds, porpoises, dolphins, whales and basking sharks, so we can sit back, relax and simply enjoy the breathtaking scenery. We arrive back in Mallaig in time to catch the return Jacobite journey to Fort William. Please note, special booking terms are required for the Jacobite Steam Train which includes a non-refundable deposit.
