Hampton Court Palace & Windsor Castle 2019

Experience the splendour of two very famous royal residences on our splendid palatial tour!

This holiday is part of the Great West Way, a 125-mile route linking London to Bristol. It follows one of the first Great Roads commissioned by the Kings of England and showcases every day England and world-famous heritage, combining a mesmerising mix of picture postcard villages, rolling hills and historic cities.
Day 1 Arrival

Day 2 Hampton Court Palace
Set on the Thames, Hampton Court Palace is a jewel among English royal palaces. Highlights include the vast Tudor kitchens where huge feasts were prepared and served to Henry VIII and his six wives in the adjoining Great Hall, and visit the sumptuous state and private apartments overlooking the famous Fountain Court. The beautiful surrounding gardens have been restored to their 17th century layout with parterres and fountains
including the world’s oldest Maze, planted over 300 years ago, consisting of half a mile of paths surrounded by high yew tree hedges.
Visit the Privy Garden, based on the original 17th century design and historic planting lists and marvel at the magnificent marble sculptures.
The Great Vine planted in 1768 is the largest in the world and still produces a yearly crop of black, sweet grapes that are sold in the palace shops in early September whilst the nearby Kitchen Garden is full of seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs growing as they would have done for Georgian kings in the 18th century.

Day 3 Departure & Windsor Castle
This morning we visit Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world, established in the 11th century by William the Conqueror. The castle has been the family home of 39 British monarchs for almost 1,000 years and is now, of course, still an
official residence of Her Majesty The Queen. Still very much a working royal palace,
the Castle is used regularly for ceremonial and State occasions, with the chapel hosting many royal weddings, including that of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
