Heritage & History in Durham 2021

Whether you choose a 3 or 4 night stay, your groups will enjoy exploring this compact city - the Beamish Museum and magnificent Bowes Museum are also worth a visit.
WHAT TO DO AROUND DURHAM

Beamish Museum
The famous Living Museum of the North, the Beamish Museum, is an open air museum set within 300 acres of beautiful County Durham countryside and tells the story of life in North East England during the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s. Experience town life as it would have been during these times and take unlimited free rides on the Beamish tram.

World Heritage Site of Durham City
Explore beautiful Durham Cathedral, where the breathtaking vaulted ceiling soars skyward like the choristers’ voices, and discover its Open Treasure experience which
gives visitors access to previously hidden spaces within the Cathedral. Durham is a compact city so can easily be explored at leisure.

Bowes Museum
The award winning Bowes Museum is a French chateau in the north of England housing an outstanding collection of European art. Displayed over three floors, the stunning galleries include fashion and textiles, silver and metals, ceramics, decorative arts and picture galleries. Don’t miss the iconic and much-loved musical Silver Swan, a life-size model controlled by clockwork mechanisms - when the mechanism is wound up the music begins and the beautiful swan preens its back. The swan is normally in action at 2.00 pm every day and his performance lasts about 40 seconds.
