This new packaged tour offers an insight into the Germany of old, with three of its most historic cities; Speyer, Heidelberg and Mainz. A scenic feast awaits on foot and by boat with plenty of time to explore the hidden wonders at leisure.
PACKAGED ITINERARY
Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Mannheim & Speyer
This morning, we enjoy a guided walking tour of Mannheim. We walk through its winding lanes and take in the Baroque Palace, the Church Palace and the iconic Mannheim Water Tower. In the afternoon, we spend time at leisure in Speyer, one of Germany’s oldest cities and home to the 11th century Speyer Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Standing for 1,000 years, the cathedral ranks as the largest preserved Romanesque cathedral in Europe.

Day 3 Heidelberg
We visit Heidelberg today, Germany’s oldest and most famous university town. Surrounded by forest, the town is famous for its baroque Old Town, scenic riverside setting and half-ruined hilltop castle. We enjoy a guided walking tour which takes in the Old Town, medieval castle and the world’s largest wine barrel! In the afternoon, we enjoy a 50 minute circular cruise on the Neckar River which takes in views of the Old Town.

Day 4 Mainz
Today, we visit the city of Mainz, situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Main rivers. We visit the famous Gutenberg Museum, home of the world’s oldest printing press. As well as the centuries old printing presses, its other most valuable treasure includes two original Gutenberg bibles of the mid 15th century. We spend the rest of the day at leisure exploring Mainz old town, where attractions include the historic main square and the 10th century Romanesque cathedral.

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, we make our way home.
