Historic Kent

As well as being known as the ‘Garden of England’, Kent also offers some famous historic sites, notably Canterbury, with its Cathedral as well as Leeds Castle, often cited as being ‘the loveliest castle in the world’. The extensive and picturesque grounds of the castle are a haven for wildlife, whilst the maze provides some added fun. This beautiful corner of England is also home to Britian's oldest brewer, Shepherd Neame, and there's a tour around the brewery included. For TV fans, we're visiting Chatham’s Historic Dockyard, where ‘Call the Midwife’ has many scenes filmed and an exciting tour features material from the series.
Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel before dinner.

Day 2 Leeds Castle & Gardens
Today, we make the very short journey to Leeds Castle & Gardens. This elegant 12th century castle rises majestically from the waters of its moat and is surrounded by 500 acres of interesting parkland and gardens. During our visit, we enjoy a relaxing 15 minute guided punt around the moat, gaining a unique perspective of the castle. Other attractions include falconry displays, a maze and grotto, the Dog Collar Museum, Elsie the land train and the Black Swan Ferry (seasonal) (small charges apply for the train/ferry).

Day 3 Canterbury & Shepherd Neame Brewery
We spend free time this morning in the university city of Canterbury, dominated by its stunning cathedral, the oldest in England. We have time to explore the cathedral, the city’s museums and the quaint, cobbled streets full of restaurants and tearooms before heading to Faversham for a guided tour of the Shepherd Neame Brewery, Britain’s oldest brewer.

Day 4 Chatham Historic Dockyard
This morning, we head to Chatham Historic Dockyard where we enjoy the new, official Call the Midwife Tour, which has been devised with the creators of Call the Midwife. Now in its seventh year, Call the Midwife regularly captures the hearts of over 10 million TV viewers, however, few viewers know that The Historic Dockyard Chatham has been the backdrop for many of the show's most iconic scenes. This exciting tour, overseen by the show's producers, will feature material from the latest series, as well as props, costumes, set and of course a costumed Midwife! In the afternoon, we spend time at leisure in Rochester, famous for its links with Charles Dickens.

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast we begin our journey home.

* Tulips at Hever Castle (In bloom from March to May)
As spring takes hold across the country, the stunning Hever Castle tulip display comes into full bloom, with over fifty different varieties of this springtime favourite on show. Head Gardener Neil Miller described the tulip display at Hever Castle as “a hidden gem” commenting that “the south-east is renowned for tulip festivals, and the explosion of colour along Pergola Walk brings a carnival like atmosphere to the formality of the Italian Garden.”
Gardens open 10.30am – 6pm (Castle opens at midday)

We have some dates listed below that cover these dates, so why not swap one of the days in the itinerary to include Hever Castle? Ask our Sales Team for a revised quote!
