Lapping Up Northamptonshire: Motors, Manors & Wines 2025

Forming the heartland of England, rural Northamptonshire is home to charming market towns, stately houses, glorious gardens and Silverstone, the Formula 1 motor racing circuit - all of which we lap up on this packaged tour. From our Northampton hotel, we make tracks for Stowe Gardens, the Elizabethan-era Holdenby House, Silverstone Interactive Museum and Delapré Abbey, and top them up with free time in Market Harborough and some delicious wine-tastings.
PACKAGED ITINERARY

Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Holdenby House & Fleur Fields Vineyard
Today begins with a visit to Holdenby House, once the largest private house in Elizabethan England and also a prison of King Charles I. We enjoy a guided tour of this beautiful manor, admiring its hall, ballroom, library and other rooms and hearing about Charles’ imprisonment here in 1647. We then have time at leisure to stroll the gardens, which include Charles’ favourite walk during his captivity. This afternoon, we make our way to Fleur Fields Vineyard, a family-run winery in the Northamptonshire hills, for a guided tour and tasting.

Day 3 Silverstone Interactive Museum & Stowe
This morning, we visit the Silverstone Race Circuit and The Silverstone Interactive Museum. The exhibition features state of the art interactive displays telling the fascinating stories of human endeavour, great sporting rivalries and engineering innovation. Our visit will end with the thrill of speeding around Silverstone alongside racing heroes in an immersive show “The Ultimate Lap of Silverstone” with commentary by Murray Walker. Subject to availability, we also visit the Heritage Track Trail to explore a retired section of the Grand Prix circuit and see what’s racing around the track that day. In the afternoon, we head to the beautiful gardens of Stowe, the scale and beauty of which have attracted visitors for over 300 years. Picture-perfect views, winding paths, lakeside walks and temples create a timeless landscape reflecting the changing seasons.

Day 4 Market Harborough & Delapré Abbey
We have this morning at leisure in Market Harborough, an 800-year-old market town famous for its traditional markets and vibrant shops and restaurants. Highlights include its 17th century, half-timbered Old Grammar School, built on stilts to shelter butter traders below, the finely steepled parish church and Harborough Museum, which houses the Hallaton Treasure - a hoard of Iron Age artifacts unearthed in nearby fields. In the afternoon, we visit Delapré Abbey, a neo-classical mansion and parkland incorporating the remains of a 900-year-old nunnery, where we enjoy a guided tour and tea and biscuits.

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, we make our way home.
