PACKAGED ITINERARY
Day 1 Arrival

We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway & Windermere Jetty
Today, we make our way to Haverthwaite Station from where we enjoy a 20 minute nostalgic steam train journey on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway to the southern tip of Lake Windermere, enjoying fabulous views as we go. From here, we make our way by coach to the new Windermere Jetty Museum where we learn about life on the lakes, viewing exhibits of steam launches, sailing yachts, motor boats and record-breaking speed boats in the boathouse, on the water and in the exhibition galleries. There is also a live conservation workshop where visitors can see the collection of historic boats being painstakingly restored and a lakeside café offering fantastic views across the lake. We spend the rest of the day at leisure in Windermere or Bowness.

Day 3 Ullswater Cruise & Lowther Castle & Gardens
Today, we enjoy a day out combining an Ullswater cruise with a visit to one of the Lake District’s newest award winning attractions, Lowther Castle and Gardens, home to the Lowther family for 850 years. Embarking at Glenridding, we enjoy a 65 minute cruise across scenic Ullswater to Pooley Bridge, from where we make the short journey by coach to Lowther Castle, passing Lowther Castle church and driving through the chocolate-box village of Askham en route. Built at the turn of the 19th century, the castle was a grand affair, boasting a room for every day of the year with gardens the envy of the north. Demolished in 1957 with just the façade and outer walls remaining, the castle was empty until the dramatic ruins and ancient gardens were restored. On arrival, we hear a 10 minute introductory talk before exploring the castle and gardens at leisure and enjoying a lunch of soup and sandwiches with tea/coffee.

Day 4 Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway & Muncaster Castle
This morning, we start with a return steam train journey on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway from the coastal village of Ravenglass to the very heart of the Lake District, Dalegarth, where we disembark for a short break before our 40 minute return journey. Once back at Ravenglass station, we re-join our coach for a short 10 minute drive to Muncaster Castle & Gardens, where we spend time exploring this haunted castle and its grounds which offer stunning views over Eskdale.
Please note, the roads in Eskdale are narrow and coaches can only turn around in one place.

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, we make our way home.
