Legenderry Landscapes: Puffin Cruise, Giant’s Causeway & a Breathtaking Train Journey 2025

The spectacular scenery on this tour will take your breath away, starting with a train journey from Coleraine to Derry described by Michael Palin as ‘one of the most beautiful in the world’. The sublime views continue with a scenic Causeway Coastal Route drive, a visit to the Giant’s Causeway and a cruise to see the seabird colony on Rathlin Island. We also embark on a guided tour of Derry, a tour of the Old Bushmills Distillery and catch sheep dog & sheep shearing demonstrations at a working farm.

Louise says…
“As part of the 2023 CTA conference I enjoyed a familiarisation trip to Derry, and what a fantastic compact city with so much to see and do for groups! The Derry walking tour is, as they say, truly ‘Legenderry’.”
PACKAGED ITINERARY

Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 A ‘Beautiful Train Journey’, Derry & ‘Meet the Mayor’ Guildhall Tour
We begin our day with a train journey described by Michael Palin as being ‘one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world’ (currently, tickets for this train must be purchased at the train station on the day). En route from Coleraine to Derry, the track runs alongside one of the most unspoilt beaches in Ireland, whilst on the opposite side of the track, we pass the cliffs of Downhill and the impressive Binevenagh Mountain. Upon arrival in Derry, we enjoy free time for lunch before embarking on a fascinating 2 hour part step-on guide and walking tour “unlocking the Walled City” as we discover tales of 400 years from past to present of the city. We finish our day with a special visit to Derry’s fabulous Guildhall, one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks. Here we enjoy an
exclusive Civic Tour including ‘Meet the Mayor’ and a sparkling prosecco drinks reception (bottled beer and orange juice also available).

Day 3 Giant’s Causeway, Portrush & Old Bushmills Distillery
This morning we visit the extraordinary Giant’s Causeway and its award-winning Visitor Centre where we learn about the mystery of this unique landscape. With dramatic cliffs and crashing waves, it is easy to fall under the spell of this legendary place. We then enjoy a scenic drive along the mighty Causeway Coastal Route, admiring the spectacular views as we go. We make a pitstop in the beautiful seaside resort town of Portrush then continue our travels to the Old Bushmills Distillery, the world’s oldest licenced working distillery in County Antrim and where Bushmills Irish Whiskey is made. Here we enjoy a guided tour (please note, there are numerous steps and stairs).

Day 4 Ballycastle Cruise & Dunfin Farm Sheep Experience
This morning we head to Ballycastle Harbour from where we embark on a 2 hour cruise going in search of puffins, seals and lighthouses! We hear stories from our guides as we sail, taking in the beautiful scenery and two of the lighthouses on the beautiful Rathlin Island. The island boasts Northern Ireland’s largest seabird colony, with more than 100,000 seabirds, including puffins, nesting on the cliffs from April to August. This afternoon we’re in for an authentic Northern Irish experience at Dunfin Farm, a traditional working farm, where we’re treated to a sheep experience or guided walk. During our visit we learn about the dog’s relationship with the shepherd & the sheep, enjoying both a sheep dog and a sheep shearing demonstration – with the chance to try our hand at both!

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, we make our way home.
