Magical Isle of Man

Small but perfectly formed, the Isle of Man offers heritage railways, coastal drives, museums, historic houses and its very own parliament. Steeped in fairytale and folklore, it has a delightful collection of tourist attractions, offering a variety of touring themes, and with the island being only 30 miles long, all are within easy reach of the fascinating capital, Douglas.
Packaged Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival

We take the ferry from Heysham and travel onwards to our hotel.

Day 2 Isle of Man Steam Railway & Cregneash
We discover the south coast today, beginning with a trip aboard the Isle of Man Steam Railway, a perfectly maintained, original Victorian train system and the longest narrow gauge steam line in Britain. We board the train in Douglas and travel through the countryside to the resort of Port Erin where we enjoy a visit to the local railway museum before continuing our journey by coach down to The Sound, a protected nature reserve with seabird and seal colonies as well as an excellent café with fabulous views across to the Calf of Man. From here it’s a short journey to Cregneash Folk Park, a peaceful, restored 19th century crofting village where traditional costumed guides show us around their delightful cottages. Returning to Douglas by road, there is the option to visit historic Castletown with its various historic sites including Rushen Abbey, the Old Grammar School and the Nautical Museum. En route back to our hotel, as we cross Fairy Bridge give a quick wave to the fairies which may bring you good luck!

Day 3 Peel & Douglas
This morning, we have free time in the west coast resort of Peel, where attractions include a flat sandy beach, marina, castle (reputedly haunted by Moddey Dhoo, the phantom hound!) and smoked kipper factory. The House of Manannan museum, named after the island’s mythological sea god, is also well worth a visit. As we return to Douglas through the town of St Johns, look out for Tynwald Hill, the ceremonial landmark of the Manx Parliament that has remained independent for over 1200 years. In the afternoon, we enjoy a guided tour of the Seven Kingdom Distillery, the only distillery on the island. Beginning production in 2017, the distillery specialises in ultra-smooth, delicately balanced spirits including its famous Douglas dry gin. Other attractions include the Manx Museum which charts the island’s fascinating 10,000 year old history and the iconic horse-drawn trams that run along the promenade.

Day 4 Laxey Wheel, Milntown Estate & TT Course
We drive the short distance to Laxey, home to probably the most famous landmark on the island, the great Laxey Wheel, the world’s largest working waterwheel. We then continue northwards for a quick look at ‘Royal Ramsey’, a working harbour town set against the North Barrule Hills. In the afternoon, we enjoy a guided tour of beautiful 16th century Milntown House, with time to explore the gardens, visit the Milntown Corn Mill and the stunning vintage car collections (please note, display dates vary and are seasonal). There is also the option to enjoy afternoon tea in the Milntown conservatory restaurant which has beautiful views of the Walled Garden. Our journey back to Douglas follows a section of the famous TT Motorcycle Racecourse.

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, we make our way home.
