As well as being the birthplace of the industrial revolution, Manchester is jam-packed with history and scientific heritage and we can follow in some very famous footsteps as well as see the city from foot and water.
PACKAGED ITINERARY

Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Manchester Guided Tour
This morning we meet our step on guide and for our 2 hour city tour of Manchester. Our tour will unveil a host of hidden gems as we learn about some of the ‘firsts’ the city has
produced in its long and illustrious history. We see the Bridgewater Canal, uncover the story of the world’s first passenger railway, experience Sackville Park and the story of Alan Turing and walk in the footsteps of LS Lowry. Having built up a thirst, we relax with a drink in one of the many vibrant pubs, with time to reflect on what we have seen, before returning to our hotel to finish with a flourish; a scrumptious 2 hour afternoon tea washed down with unlimited Prosecco – now that’s a treat!

Day 3 Paradise Mill & Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre
Today we begin with a 1 hour guided tour of Paradise Mill (please note there are 47 steps and no lift). This award-winning tour reveals Europe’s largest known collection of Jacquard silk handlooms, all in their original setting. We immerse ourselves in this unique textile collection, seeing all aspects of the weaving process, before having time to visit the Silk Museum, which bears witness to an extensive collection. We have free time for lunch in very fashionable Wilmslow, complete with designer boutiques and eateries and a hangout for footballer’s wives! In the afternoon, we change gears with a visit to renowned Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre, a key player in the space race. Here we learn about the ground-breaking science that has been taking place here for over 75 years, from scientific feats through the dawn of the Space Age to the Lovell Telescope.

Day 4 Picnic at RHS Bridgewater & Salford Quay Cruise
Our first stop this morning is the colourful RHS Bridgewater, an oasis of calm and a heritage landscape. This beautiful garden opened in 2020, makes a wonderful horticultural experience as we explore its wonders including the Paradise Garden, the
Chinese inspired four season themed Streamside Garden and the Weston Walled Garden to name but a few. We embrace the outdoors with a picnic lunch in the gardens. In the afternoon we board the Princess Katherine for a 1 hour cruise around Salford Quays and the Manchester Ship Canal, enjoying excellent views of the city, the disused docks as well as Old Trafford and MediaCity.

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, we make our way home.
