Norway’s Fabulous Fjordland & Viking Adventure 2020

Follow in the footsteps of the Vikings as you travel through the magnificent Norwegian Hardangerfjord and Sognefjord regions. Take a holiday of a lifetime and witness world-class scenery, stunning drives through unspoilt and natural landscape, and iconic attractions included such as a journey on the Flåm Railway!
Days 1 - 2 UK to Germany via North Sea
We travel from the UK to Holland via an overnight sailing on the North Sea, to Germany for our overnight stay.

Day 3 Hirtshals via Kolding & Aalborg
We depart from Germany and begin our travels through Denmark taking a lunch stop at Denmark’s friendliest town, Kolding. We continue our journey with an afternoon stop and some free time in Aalborg. We make our way to Hirtshals where we board our evening overnight ferry to Bergen, Norway.

Day 4 Eidfjord via Bergen
We arrive in Bergen with free time for lunch in the city before we begin our journey to Eidfjord. We cross the Hardanger Bridge, the longest suspension Bridge in Norway. We arrive at the Quality Hotel Vøringsfoss, our home for the next 2 nights, in time for dinner.

Day 5 Eidfjord Driver’s Day Off
This morning we start the day with a relaxing 90 minute circular cruise on the inner waters of the Hardangerfjord, the 2nd longest Fjord in Norway. During our cruise we encounter spellbinding scenery with cultural and natural gems side by side. We return to Eidfjord where we will have free time for lunch. This afternoon we meet at the front of the hotel ready for our 1 hour journey on the Troll train, where we tour the village and ride into the Hæreid Plateau Mountains where we witness Viking graves, Eidfjord church and a great view of the fjord. There will be picture stops along with audio commentary on board. We return to the hotel for dinner.

Day 6 Leikanger via Flåm
We make an early start this morning as we make our way to Flåm. We board the Flåm Railway, one of Norway’s leading attractions, for a return journey to Myrdal. We take a spectacular ride with a panoramic view of some of the wildest and most striking examples of a Norwegian fjord and mountain landscapes. We journey through the steep and narrow Flåm Valley and make stops at the most scenic spots. On arrival in Flåm we have free time to wander round the shops and cafés for lunch (not included). After lunch we have a 45 minute guided tour at Viking Valley. We experience an exciting and incredible journey which will take us back over a thousand years in time and brings to life, the real history and culture of the Viking age. Learn about the Vikings and how they lived and worked and their influence around the globe. Walk the streets and become part of a living town with an international community of Viking enthusiasts! We then travel to our next hotel via the Lærdal tunnel, the longest tunnel in the world at 24.5km long! We take a short ferry crossing across the Sognefjord from Fodnes to Manheller and continue to the Leikanger Fjord Hotel in time for dinner and our home for the next 3 nights.

Day 7 Leikanger & Balestrand
This morning we take a short drive to visit Henja Farm. We embark on a 90 minute visit and discover the day to day life on a Norwegian farm, focusing on the surrounding area while enjoying a splendid view of the majestic Sognefjord. We taste a home-baked treat and a glass of apple juice or cider from the farm whilst enjoying a sing-a-long! We then make our way for a short ferry crossing from Hella to Dragsvik. We continue our drive to Balestrand, known as the art village of Sognefjord which has inspired artists from around the world who have sought inspiration. The village overlooks the fjord with snow-capped mountains and sweeping views. The village is home to a selection of authentic, wooden Swiss-style villas and art galleries. Here we have free time for the rest of the day to soak up the ambience and explore this iconic village. We return to the hotel via the return crossing from Dragsvik to Hella in time for dinner.

Day 8 Jostedalsbreen National Park & Kaupanger
This morning we begin with a scenic drive through the Jostedalsbreen National park. We stop at the village of Skei, situated on a lakeside surrounded by beautiful high mountains, and take in the Jostesdalsbreen glacier where we make a photo stop. Our next visit is at the Glacier Museum where we learn about ice, glaciers, landscape and climate. We start with a short video where we take a flying journey over the glaciers and walk through this very informative interactive museum. We have included a packed lunch on this day. In the afternoon we drive to Kaupanger where we complete our day with a
visit to De Heibergske Samlinger Folk Museum. We experience how local people have lived and worked from the middle ages until the present time. The open-air museum has more than 30 buildings, spanning a time period from the medieval openhearth cottage to modern day housing. The museum also runs a traditional farm.

Day 9 Vik, Voss & Bergen
We say goodbye to Leikanger and begin our journey to Bergen. We start with a short ferry crossing from Hella to Vagnes and stop in the picturesque village of Vik, situated on the southern tip of the mighty Sognefjord, where we have free time to wonder the cafés and shops. We make a photo stop at the Hopperstad Stave Church, the oldest one in existence built around 1130, offering fabulous views over Vik town centre and the fjord. We then head to Voss where we have free time for lunch and to wander around the town. In the afternoon we begin our journey to Bergen for our last night stay in Norway, at a 3 Star hotel.

Day 10 Mount Fløyen & Bergen
After an early breakfast we take a journey on the Mount Fløyen Funicular Railway where we travel 320m above sea level and enjoy the magnificent view of Bergen city and the surrounding area during a 6 minute ride! We return to the city centre and complete our morning with a guided tour of Bergen. We bid farewell to Norway and embark on an overnight ferry crossing from Bergen to Hirtshals in Denmark.

Day 11 - 13 Denmark - UK
After arriving in the morning in Hirtshals, we travel through Denmark to our overnight accommodation in northern Germany. We continue through Germany, to our port in Holland for our final overnight ferry crossing back to the UK.
Please note your ferry crossing from Fodnes – Manheller (Day 6), return crossing Hella – Dragsvik (Day 7) and Hella – Vagnesis are all operated by Fjord1 Ferries and we are unable to pre-book and pre-pay for these services. These services will need to be paid by cash or card at the port. More information will be provided in your quote.
