Rediscover Alassio

Full of expatriate heritage, welcoming Alassio has long been a favourite with British travellers. Having one of the best beaches anywhere in Italy, the town is surrounded by pretty Ligurian villages and olive clad hills and is popular with Italian holidaymakers – what better seal of approval?!

Sue says...
“Situated centrally in Alassio, this 4 star hotel is in a great location for a driver’s day off, with upmarket shopping and the sea very close by – a great alternative if clients have one Diano Marina for many years”.
Day 1 Arrival
We will arrive at our hotel with time to settle in prior to dinner this evening.

Day 2 Santa Margherita & Portofino 257km/160 mile round trip
Today, we will visit the most fashionable and stylish resorts of the Italian Riviera. We travel to the attractive palm-lined resort of Santa Margherita and, from here, we can enjoy a relaxing boat ride along the coast, around the heartland and into the chic and famous village of Portofino.

Day 3 Alassio Driver’s Day Off
We spend today at leisure in Alassio. We can relax at our hotel and explore the historic street of Budello di Alassio, where the history of the town can be most appreciated, with its numerous shops, churches and piazzas. Look out for the library which is one of the oldest English language libraries in Italy, which has been managed by the same English librarian for 30 years! And of course, enjoy the beautiful sandy beach and its promenade dotted with eateries.

Day 4 Diano Marina & Cervo 34km/21 mile round trip
This morning, we will head to the quaint Ligurian town of Diano Marina and its endless stretch of sandy beach. With plenty of characterful streets, historic churches and a lovely palm-lined promenade to enjoy, we can spend time exploring before enjoying a magnificent seafood lunch at the Beach Ristorante restaurant. After lunch we will make our way back to our hotel via the pretty, ancient hilltop village of Cervo, (please note: steep paths and steps, not suitable for people with walking difficulties) renowned as one of the “most beautiful villages in Italy”.

Day 5 Rocca Grimalda 236km/147 mile round trip
This morning, we enjoy a lovely drive inland, towards the small town of Rocca Grimalda and its perfectly preserved historical town centre. We will visit the beautiful Rocca Grimalda Castello where we will enjoy a fascinating visit and tour of this strategically placed castle, perched high on a hilltop overlooking the vast Valle dell’Orba. We can enjoy lunch in the town and perhaps some wine tasting before making our way back to our hotel.

Day 6 Departure
After breakfast we begin our journey home.
