Germany’s Franconia region lends itself as a perfect wintery backdrop at this festive time of year when traditional Christmas markets give a magical air to the towns of Rothenburg, Bamberg and Nuremberg. Our tour includes time to explore the markets for gifts and traditional delicacies.
PACKAGED ITINERARY
Day 1 Arrival
Day 2 Nuremberg
We will have a full day trip to the city of Nuremberg with a 90-minute guided tour of the old town including the towering St Lawrence Church, Gothic Church of our Lady as well as the Imperial Castle. Afterwards, enjoy the festive atmosphere of the world-famous Nuremberg Christmas Market. We return to our hotel for a warming glass of mulled wine and delicious traditional gingerbread.
Day 3 Steigerwald & Bamberg
This morning, we will enjoy a magical ride through the scenic Steigerwald with our own tour guide with stops in the pretty towns of Prichsenstadt and Ebrach. After lunch, we travel to Bamberg for a guided 1-hour city tour to stroll around its old town including the famous Romanesque Cathedral as well as the atmospheric Nativity Trail. In December, heart-warming nativity scenes are displayed in churches, shop windows and public spaces across the city.
Day 4 Rothenburg ob der Tauber
After breakfast, we head to Northern Bavaria’s old town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber for a fascinating 90-minute guided tour to see its medieval architecture and the Gothic-styled St Jakob’s Church. We may have the opportunity to visit the famous Christmas village “Käthe Wohlfahrt, with a wonderful selection of traditional toys on display.
Day 5 Departure
NB: This tour is not suitable for those with severe mobility issues or wheelchair users.
