Based at the (grand old) Duke of Cornwall hotel in Plymouth, our tour of South Devon takes in some of its oldest attractions set amidst the wild beauty of Dartmoor. We feature Morwellham Quay, and the Mayflower Museum, enjoy a railway journey and a scenic cruise and explore ancient Tavistock at our leisure.

PACKAGED ITINERARY
Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.
Day 2 Morwellham Quay & Tavistock
We step back in time this morning as we visit the award-winning Morwellham Quay which forms part of a World Heritage Site featuring the only open copper mine in the UK, made accessible to visitors by a riverside railway. Next we make our way to Tavistock, a thriving market town and the only town in Devon to hold world heritage status. We have plenty of free time for lunch and a stroll around the many independent shops as well as the ancient indoor pannier market, discover the museum or even the 28 blue plaques on the Heritage Trail.
Day 3 Plymouth Boat Cruise, Mayflower Museum & Plymouth
We head to the Mayflower Steps in Plymouth this morning, from where we enjoy a 1 hour return harbour cruise across the Plymouth Sound, past Plymouth Hoe and Drake’s Island, heading to the Royal Naval Dockyard. Once back on dry land, we visit the Mayflower Museum. In the afternoon, we enjoy free time in the old harbour area of Plymouth, browsing the historic independent shops and cafés.
Day 4 South Devon Railway & Dartmoor
Today, we enjoy a return journey on the South Devon Railway from Buckfastleigh to Totnes, along a seven mile stretch of line that runs along the stunning valley of the River Dart. In the afternoon, we have a scenic drive across spectacularly beautiful Dartmoor.
Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, we make our way home.
