Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Royal Mint & Cardiff
This morning, we enjoy a guided tour of The Royal Mint Experience visitor attraction, where we see how blank pieces of metal become coins, observe the striking hall from a viewing gallery, and even have the opportunity to strike our own coin to take home (extra charge). We spend the afternoon in nearby Cardiff, where we enjoy free time to explore this exciting city.

Day 3 Dyffryn Gardens (NT) & Castle Coch
Today we visit the stunning 55 acres of Dyffryn Gardens surrounding the partially restored Dyffryn House, where we explore the beautiful garden rooms, formal lawns and extensive arboretum at leisure. In the afternoon we visit Castle Coch (not suitable for those with walking difficulties), the ultimate fairy tale castle, with conical towers and needle-sharp turrets peeking out from a wooded slope. Due to its “Camelot” style of drawbridge, portcullis, court yard and lavish interiors, the castle is a popular filming location.

Day 4 Brecon Mountain Railway & Penderyn Distillery
This morning, we embark on a 6 mile return vintage steam train journey from Pant to Torpantau on the Brecon Mountain Railway. We journey along the Taf Fechan Reservoir before climbing to Torpantau high in the Brecon Beacons. Our 1.5 hour trip includes a 35 minute stop at Pontsticill station where there is a Lakeside café and Steam Museum. We have free time for lunch back at Pant Station’s Tearoom and visit the locomotive workshop before heading to the famous Penderyn Distillery where we enjoy a guided tour and tasting.

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, we make our way home.
