Tenby & the Gardens of South Wales

South Wales boasts beautiful countryside, coastal towns, beaches and gardens. Our Suggested Itinerary takes in some of the best attractions in the area.
Day 1 Arrival
Departing our local area this morning, we arrive at our hotel in time to settle in before dinner.

Day 2 National Botanical Gardens of Wales 70/18 mile round trip
This morning, we will make our way to the National Botanical Gardens of Wales. The garden is both a visitor attraction and a centre for botanical research and conservation, and features the world’s largest single-span glasshouse. The idea for the gardens started in 1978, when a group of local walkers decided they wanted to revive the splendour of what they could see around them. Setting up a fund raising scheme, the little money raised led to the rediscovery of a number of historical features. We will have time to walk around and discover the natural beauty of the garden. Highlights to look out for include three lakes, a Japanese Garden, a Bog Garden, a Double Walled Garden and the Tropical House. We will then return to our hotel, and with the location being in the middle of town, we can enjoy a stroll before dinner.

Day 3 Tenby 0/54 mile round trip
Today we spend a day relaxing in the pretty picture postcard town of Tenby. Here we can explore quaint streets and 13th century medieval town walls, stroll around the picturesque harbour, visit Tenby Museum and Art Gallery or just relax on the golden sands of this beautiful resort. During our day at leisure we can enjoy lunch in one of the many restaurants and tearooms. In the afternoon we could take a short boat trip to Caldey Island with its beautiful monastery.

Day 4 Aberglasney House & Gardens 77/24 mile round trip
After breakfast, we will visit Aberglasney House and Gardens, set in the beautiful Tywi Valley of Carmarthenshire, once a turbulent place during the Middle Ages. The dramatic ruined castles punctuating the valley are a reminder of those times and the Aberglasney property was at the centre of many of the ensuing battles. Nowadays, it is a serene and beautiful location and one of the finest gardens in Wales. A renowned plantsman’s paradise with a unique Elizabethan cloister garden at its heart, Aberglasney offers the opportunity to explore more than 10 acres of magnificent gardens which, along with the fully restored ground floor of Aberglasney’s mansion, offers a stunning venue for groups.

Day 5 Departure
This morning, we will say goodbye to our hotel and make our return journey home.
