The Ardennes

We enjoy a diverse tour which will provide something for everyone's taste. We visit the oldest town in Luxembourg, the only water garden in Belgium as well as a brewery visit and tasting.
Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel before dinner.

Day 2 Jardins d’Annevoie & Freÿr Castle & Gardens
Today we travel to Jardins d'Annevoie, stunning 17th century water gardens, home to some dramatic waterfalls, the ‘Grand Canal’ and the only water steps in Belgium - if not in Europe - that have survived in perfect working order since they were constructed around 1760! In the afternoon we continue to Freÿr Castle & Gardens. Explore the 14th century castle, furnished by the 20 generations who have lived there before strolling around the stunning gardens.

Day 3 WWII Ardennes & Beer
This morning we begin in the village of Hotton, the western limit of the great German counter offensive in the Ardennes in 1945. Here we visit the Commonwealth Cemetery, containing 66 Commonwealth graves of WWII, 21 of them unidentified. We continue onto Bastogne to visit the WWII War Museum, which has some fascinating exhibits on display, which focus on the Battle of the Bulge. We have time at leisure for lunch, before making our way to the Brasserie d'Achouffe. Here, we will be greeted by our guide and shown an introductory film before enjoying a tour of one of the Ardenne's most famous breweries and a taste of what’s on offer!

Day 4 ‘Little Switzerland’ & Luxembourg City
This morning, we head to Echternach, the oldest town in Luxembourg and the most scenic town in ‘Little Switzerland’. We enjoy some time here to visit the quaint market square, the Abbey Museum and the remains of the Roman Villa. We continue our journey onto Luxembourg’s historic capital, which has a fairytale quality thanks to its clifftop setting high above the gorges of the Alzette and Pétrusse Rivers. Surrounded by 17th century ramparts, these once-impregnable military fortifications give the city its unique character. The UNESCO-listed Old Town offers plenty to explore, including the Ducal Palace, Notre-Dame Cathedral, and the fascinating Casemates, underground tunnels used as WWII hiding places.

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast we begin our journey home.
