Day 1 Arrival
On arrival at our hotel, we will enjoy a welcome tea or coffee whilst our bags are taken to our room.

Day 2 Cotswolds & Bourton House 62 mile round trip
After breakfast we make our way into the Cotswolds taking in Bourton-on-the-Water, regularly voted as one of the prettiest villages in England, then Stow-on-the-Wold and Moreton-in-Marsh before stopping at Bourton House Garden. The garden surrounds a fine 18th century manor house and features magnificent wide herbaceous borders, imaginative topiary, a serene White Garden, spring-fed water features and many creatively planted pots. This afternoon we continue on our circular drive, spending some time in Broadway, which is often referred to as the ‘Jewel of the Cotswolds’, before we return to our hotel.

Day 3 Tewkesbury & Gloucester 31 mile round trip
Today we will explore the medieval town of Tewkesbury with its picturesque riverside setting. We could visit ‘Out of the Hat’, an exquisite example of a 17th century home and shop that now houses a heritage centre or take a stroll along Church Street, lined with half-timbered houses punctuated with Tewkesbury’s famous alleyways. We might choose to visit Tewkesbury Museum before making our way to the beautiful 12th century Norman-built Tewkesbury Abbey. Built to house Benedictine monks in 1121, the Abbey’s long nave and large Romanesque tower are certainly distinguishing features. We enjoy lunch at leisure in Tewkesbury before making our way to the beautiful city of Gloucester. Here we can enjoy free time to wander around Gloucester’s glorious medieval Cathedral (entrance free, donation expected) which was used in most of the Harry Potter films as ‘Hogwarts’ or alternatively visit the Victorian docks and explore the award winning Gloucester Waterways Museum overlooking the River Severn.

Day 4 Chepstow 78 mile round trip
This morning we make our way to Wales and visit Chepstow, a bustling border market town. We begin with a visit to Chepstow Castle which dominates the town, perched high on a crag guarding the river crossing between England and Wales. It is the oldest surviving post-Roman stone fortification in Britain and the views across the Wye Valley are simply breathtaking. We will then pay a visit to the award winning Chepstow Museum, housed within an elegant 18th century townhouse. The museum’s exhibits reflect the development of Chepstow, once an important port and bustling market town. We can enjoy lunch in one of the many restaurants or cafés and spend some time exploring the winding back streets with a variety of shops or take in the old town walls and the 15th century gatehouse.

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, we leave our hotel and begin our journey home.
