6 Day Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel before dinner.

Day 2 Sarlat
This morning we will enjoy a 60 minute guided walking tour of the famous town of Sarlat-la- Canéda. One of the most alluring and attractive towns in south-western France, Sarlat has developed around the large Benedictine Abbey since the 14th Century. Today is market day, so we can browse amongst the stalls at our leisure and wander through the small winding streets of this largely car-free town centre. Operator note: If a driver’s day off is required, please contact our Sales Team for details of local coach hire available.

Day 3 Rocamadour & Padirac Caves
We travel through the picturesque hills and valleys of the Dordogne to the mystical pilgrimage village of Rocamadour. Named after Saint Amadour, this small village has been a place of pilgrimage since the discovery of his body in 1166, along with a mysterious Black Madonna. These sites of discovery are now contained within several churches carved (almost literally) into the rock and are accessed by a combination of 216 steps, known as the Grand Escalier, and the Way of the Cross. For the less energetic there are 2 lifts taking you between the levels, but please note that there is a charge for these. We continue our journey to the caves of the Gouffre de Padirac, an amazing labyrinth of 40km of galleries including an underground river. We enjoy a visit to the caves, descending by lift to enjoy a guided journey by audio guide on foot and by boat through this mystical world.
(Please note that although there is lift access to the caves, passengers are still required to negotiate some steps and enter boats).

Day 4 Lascaux II Caves & Les Jardins d’Eyrignac
This morning, we head to the Lascaux II Caves. Hidden for over 17000 years, the caves were discovered in 1940, and hold some of the most complete examples of prehistoric cave paintings in the world. Sadly the original caves were closed in 1963 to ensure that they remained preserved for the future. However, an exact replica (Lascaux II) was subsequently created with inch-perfect attention to detail, and this remains a fascinating, unmissable place to visit. We then continue our journey to the Jardins du Manoir d'Eyrignac where we enjoy a delicious 3 course lunch including wine at the Manoir restaurant ‘Côté Jardins’. Our visit continues to the gardens, which offer an amazing feast for the senses with something to delight everyone. The seven gardens include the beautiful White Garden, the formal topiary sculptures and even a wild flower meadow.

Day 5 Dordogne Cruise & Château de Beynac
After a leisurely breakfast we head to Beynac for a 60 minute circular cruise on the Dordogne River on a gabare, an authentic reproduction of an 18th century boat. We then enjoy a 3 course lunch with wine at the Hostellerie Maleville in Beynac before enjoying a visit to Château de Beynac. We finish the day with a tasting of regional products.

Day 6 Departure
After breakfast we begin our journey home.
