Day 2 Weald & Downland Living Museum & Chichester
This morning we visit the unique Weald & Downland Living Museum, an open-air museum with a collection of over 50 original buildings spanning a period of 600 years. Site of the hugely popular BBC TV series ‘The Repair Shop’, in which the highly skilled craftspeople save and resurrect broken treasures, we spend the morning exploring this remarkable microcosm of South East English history in its authentic Wealden setting! Perhaps witness a Victorian smithy at work, cooking in a Tudor kitchen, a working watermill grinding flour and other workshop demonstrations. There is time to enjoy lunch in the lakeside tearoom before we head to Chichester with plenty of time to explore. Highlights include the magnificent cathedral and award-winning Novium Museum built over the remains of a Roman bathhouse.
Day 3 Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens
Today we visit Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens which offers a wonderful experience for all that visit. The gardens offer a variety of scenic walks with its seven interlaced lakes, extensive woodlands and lovely parkland. It really is a joy to visit any time of year.
Day 4 Nymans & Wings Aviation Museum
This morning, we enjoy a visit to Nymans, a medieval manor house remodelled in the 1920s and now a partial ruin. A garden lovers’ home for all seasons, with an extensive yet intimate garden set around a romantic house and ruins. The comfortable, yet elegant, house reflects the personalities and stories of the talented Messel family. In the afternoon we head to the World War II Wings Aviation Museum. Each artefact and item of memorabilia tells its own unique story, set alongside the sounds and music of the time. You will find an abundance of memorabilia including The Home Front, RAF Fighter Command, The Blitz, Battle of Britain, Bomb Disposal, Home Guard, Air raid shelters, Aircraft Turrets, RAF Bomber Command, US 8th Air Force, Luftwaffe, Russian Front, D-Day and Beyond, and more.
