Tradition & Folklore in the Ardennes

Our fantastic packaged tour of the picturesque Ardennes region features a river cruise, beautiful gardens, historic breweries and the picture-postcard towns of Dinant and Durbuy, possibly the smallest city in the world! We also head to Luxembourg where we visit the historic city of Ecternach in Little Switzerland, and Luxembourg City.
Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Jardins d’Annevoie & Dinant
Today we travel to Jardins d'Annevoie, stunning 17th century water gardens and home to dramatic waterfalls, the ‘Grand Canal’ and the only water steps in Belgium, if not Europe, that have survived in perfect working order since they were constructed in around 1760. From here we travel to picturepostcard Dinant, in its striking setting on the riverbank flanked by spectacular cliffs, and famous for its historic Leffe beer, which can be traced back to the monks who founded the brewery in 1240. We spend time at leisure before embarking on a 45 minute river cruise from Dinant to Anseremme.

Day 3 Achouffe Brewery, La Roche-en-Ardenne & Durbuy
This morning, we head for the charming Achouffe Brewery where we enjoy a guided tour of the brewery that produces La Chouffe golden beer, “the beer of the dwarfs brewed in the valley of the fairies”! From here we travel to La Roche-en-Ardenne where we enjoy free time for lunch, before making our way to Durbuy, one of the most picturesque villages in the Ardennes, also known as the smallest city in the world! We spend time at leisure exploring the cobblestone alleys full of craft shops and charming cafés and its most famous attraction, the Topiary Garden, which showcases over 250 topiary animals and figures.

Day 4 ‘Little Switzerland’ & Luxembourg
This morning, we head to Echternach, the oldest town in Luxembourg and the most scenic town in ‘Little Switzerland’. We enjoy free time to visit the quaint market square, the Abbey Museum and the remains of the Roman Villa. From here, we head for Luxembourg’s historic capital, which has a fairytale quality thanks to its clifftop setting high above the gorges of the Alzette and Pétrusse Rivers. Surrounded by 17th century ramparts, these once-impregnable military fortifications give the city its unique character. The UNESCO-listed Old Town features plenty of attractions, including the Ducal Palace, Notre-Dame Cathedral, and the fascinating Casemates - underground tunnels used as WWII hiding places.

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast we begin our journey home.
